I have just purchased an 06 2500 with G56 6sp.,seems noisy,how much noise should I hear in neutral with the clutch out? with clutch in there's no noise,kinda loud with clutch out,shifts good.,clutch feels strong.Thanks in ad vance.

The previous owner may have installed a SouthBend Clutch, which by nature is a noisy thing. See if you can find out who and ask them. My SB made a knocking noise when the clutch was engaged and in neutral. Noise was comming from the bellhousing. (previous truck)

Should be no clutch noise when clutch engaged. SB clutch noise is with pedal depressed and clutch disengaged.

Of course it is hard to judge noise by description. It is either a bearing or gear backlash. Gear backlash is no problem. Gears can run very noisy and be fine. Bearings should be quiet.

Also, if the noise is just in neutral I would not worry. If the flywheel was changed from a dual mass (DM) to a single mass (SM) you may get some neutral rattle and you may get a strong rattle around 1250 under load. Avoid that.

Wish we could hear it to judge better.

If it is not louder than the engine when driving i would say keep running it especially if it operates good.

I just edited my previous. The noise from my clutch was when the clutch was engaged and in neutral. I originally said disengaged and in neutral.

The shop told me it was my imput bearing making the noise. Wrong! They torn it down and paid for the works, found nothing but a little wear on 6th gear. That was a NV5600. Pics of the teardown are in my gallery.

the dodge techinician called today,he has the truck tore down,but can't find a problem,truck has performance clutch,flywheel,the tyranny seems to be ok,he's still checking it,

If you found it was a SB Clutch Package, chances are the noise is coming from the pressure plate. That was the noise I had and most everyone else. How much noise is to much? Mine still made noise after the second pressure plate was installed. But nothing like the first one.

Outside of the noise, was the clutch performing well? Since you just purchased the truck, and it's 4 years old, you could have probably assumed it had a replacement clutch and done some reading to learn that most all replacement aftermarket clutches can be a little noisy - goes with the territory.

When it is all said and done, you will have that dealer coming back to you wanting you to buy a stock clutch to get rid of the noise - that would be a step backwards as the stock clutches are not of the quality and durability that an aftermarket clutch is.

Take time to get used to your new to you vehicle. Take the time to do some good discovery before jumping into where you are now with your clutch. You are throwing good money into nothing but a waste of money when it comes to having a dealership check out/tear down a performing and functional truck. All you will get at this time is a very expensive lesson.

The problem was a bad throw-out bearing,two bad taper bearings in the transmission and a bad cross-over shaft. cost to me 110. for throwout-bearing,the labor and tranny parts were covered 100% by 90 day 3,000 mile used truck warranty.

Got my truck back same noise. Mechanic said get rid of after market clutch and single mass flywheel are live with the noise. They did replace 3 bearings and a shaft in the tranny.,

South Bend ought to have a STICKER that goes with their clutch.So folks buying a USED truck dosen't go chasing noises to find out its the clutch and its 'normal' Too many threads on noisy clutch assemblys and most are South Bend.

I replaced my DM flywheel and clutch at 147,000 miles with a SB clutch pack rated at 475 HP and a SM fly wheel. I have never had anymore problem with my cLutch that now has 295,000 miles on it, total miles on my truck is 442,175 miles, 05 3500 with G56. I would never go back to OEM parts for my clutch.
