G56 clutch swap
I am gettin ready to put a DD in my truck, next weekend I hope.
My question is do I need to or would yall recomend takeing the T case off the trans before I take the trans out or just leave it all in once piece and take it out as one unit?
Also is the motor goin to tilt enough that I will need to put a jackstand under it in the front or back?
Any other info would be great as this will be the first DD I have seen much less installed. And do the SBC kits come with everything needed such as throw out and pilo bearing?
How bout the hydros? Any trick to that?
TIA

wap. are you ready?
#1 unless you have a dedicated tranny jack, i recommend removing the tcase from the trans. 6 nuts is all it takes. I separated mine.
#2 place a small floor jack under the rear of the oil pan, it will try to tilt back slightly and will help in realignment.
#3 the throwout bearing and pilot bearing are included along with the alignment tool.
#4 hydaulics, just remove the 2 bolts holding the slave cylinder into the bell housing and tie it up out of the way.
-remove the hanger for the downpipe from the bell housing before trying to remove the trans, major PITA if you dont.
-just pop the tcase shift lever off the rubber grommets and put the lever aside.
-the reverse and 4x4 shift connectors were the same on my truck and can be hooked up to the wrong place when finished, recommend labeling them.
-unbolt the front shaft at the tcase and zip tie it to the drivers frame rail, dont fight the torx screws at the front diff.
-mark the carrier bearing support for alignment before removing, misalignment can cause vibes.
good luck. have fun buddy.

What do you mean by "dedicated" tranny jack?
I have the **** for 4x4 but how bad was takin apart the plastic consol thing that is around the shifter? Will I need to unbolt my shifter off the trans?

tranny jacks are a large flat plate with some adjustable verticle posts for craddling the trans to prevent it rolling around, and the usually have chains for tying it to the jack. rental stores have them.
the floor console is a pita too. since you have the electronic 4x4, it will be slightly different than mine. just ignore what doesnt fit your rig. I had to unsnap the boot around the 4x4 lever to remove the screws(2?) in there, then pop the rubber pieces out of the cup holder for that one. then pull up. take 1/4" set and remove the stubborn screws(8?) around the boot for the 6spd. then the 4 bolts holding the shifter tower into the trans.
the g56 may be alittle different than my nv5600, and if i have the screw counts wrong sorry, didnt think to take pics when i did that part of mine.
you are quite welcome. have a good weekend

I like to leave the two cases attached and just move the trans/trascase back once everything is loose/removed.
then install your clutch and just push the trans/transcase forward into place again. This way you don't have to drop everything to the floor and then readjust it once in the air again.

I dont know how I missed your post 53 but thanks.
It seems that some say drop the T case and other say leave it, I think I will wait till this weekend to decide but if I can I really, really would rather leave it in one piece.
I am also thinkin of drivin up on some 4"x4"s or something to get me up in the air a few more inches.
Good idea or bad idea?
I just hope this thing shows up soon, I gota run down to Ocala on the 25th or 26th with a 24' gooseneck to pick up a load of horses and I am hopin to have it broke in enough so I can take my truck and see how the new clutch does.
