FYI regarding what looks like injector leaks
for the last year or so i have been looking at stains around my #5, 6 and a little bit of #4 injectors...i started her and placed a cardboard there to see if i get spray...after 5 min the cardboard was clean....i dont get misses or anything and the leaks have never gotten bigger in 2 years....so i ran my finger on there yesterday to see what is smells like...and i couldnt tell if it was diesel fuel...it didnt really smell like it....
so get this...i decided to see if the valve covers were on tight enough...and surely #5 and #6 were slightly loose and # 4 was a hair loose
must have been an very slight oil leak all the time...now im gonna clean the engine out with some gunk or whatever and double check
think about that before u run to the stores looking for washers, or getting ur injectors tested or replaced

Yep. 90% of the time, the valve covers leak making it look like leaky injectors. I bought some gunk for mine, and just havent gotten around to it yet. I also want to put new valve cover gaskets on at the same time so it stays clean.

while you are at it, you might also wanna get the valve cover screws, when I had these leaks, most of the time it was from up there...

When they get old they harden and might feel like steel but there are gaskets. There is also supposed to be O-rings on the bolts that hold them down. The newest gaskets are now grey and are supposed to last longer than the old black ones. I got mine directly from Cummins.

The kind to get are the FelPro part numbr VS50396R obtainable at your auto parts store. Be sure to specify FelPro as they are the kind that does not get hard over time. They cost about $1.50 each. Take your time with #5 and 6 to get the gasket on straight. I used a small amount of Permatex to hold the gasket on the cover on these two because it's a tight fit. Be sure to replace the "O" rings also - they come with the gaskets.
