fuel tank question

Our fuel gauges suck. They're unreliable, I know. Half the time my gauge does read a 'consistent' level and when it hits E I fill up about 20-22 gallons of fuel. My question is, how big is the tank? I don't have dual tanks. I have a long bed, standard cab. I've heard it's 30 gallons but am doubting because I don't want to run my tank dry IF my gauge is correct in telling me that I'm sitting near empty.

The tank is 35 gallons but Dodge in their infinite wisdom to protect us from ourselves made the gauge to read E with 7-10 gallons to go.
The reasoning behind this is that a diesel is no fun to restart after running out of fuel but most importantly a reservoir of fuel in the tank helps to cool return fuel protecting your expensive injection pump from overheating damage.
If you want your pump to last it's not real wise to run it down to E anyway.

i am sure it is 35 gallon and also you should read this it worked great for mine. I just used my own imagination i didnt do it exactly this way but my gauge didnt work for a year and i fixed it and now it does.

God how i missed that gauge. http://dodgeram.org/tech/repair/fuel_sender/sender.htm

I would just read that and try to fix it. It just gets loose so all you have to do is come up with your own way to tightnen it up. Just bending out the little conector works pretty good.

In my case it is the when I hit half tank it takes about 24 gallons to fill her up. I just fill up at a half tank.
