Some time back, I remember someone posting pictures with instructions on how to build a bracket for a choke cable setup in place of the fuel solenoid. But, it doesnt look like the thread in question is turning up in the search. Do any of you have the pics of the bracket and mounting along with the instructions? Thanks again.

Why? what would make someone want to go from a what we have now to a cable opperated system??

Its really $$$ to replace and if it goes out on you while your in the middle of nowhere well I hate walking.

Exactly, Some folks cant afford another fuel solenoid from Dodge at 400+ bills. Piers sells the solenoid for 150.00. But, thats beside the point. I have a guy here that does not have the money to replace the solenoid so he is going for the choke cable setup.

If you drive in really dusty or muddy conditions, the cable system is much more reliable than the solenoid. I cabled mine after a couple of elk hunting trips where the solenoid froze closed and I had to crawl in the ice and snow at the crack of dawn, and pull the pin and wire it open to get it started.

reliability and cost. plus having a cable out of the way is a nice theft deterrant because I bet most of those kiddy kar thieves don't know much about diesel.

I never saw any pictures of a bracket but made my own out of a piece of aluminum angle. It is long enough to go across the opening after removing the fuel shutdown solenoid. I then got a choke cable clamp and mounted it to the vertical portion of the angle iron. I made the hole for the the choke cable or whatever cable you use to go through the center of the bracket. I actually used a cable with a twist lock so to start the truck you pull the cable out and twist to lock in the running position and then start the truck as usual. To shutdown twist to unlock and then turn off key or key first if you like. It works great and the Piers shutdown solenoid came after I made the bracket so it is still sitting in the box. As a side note I also gained some HP as the old fuel shutdown solenoid was out of adjustment or not opening completely. Hope this helps.

I have also seen a John Deere shut off cable used, spring loaded to keep the lever open (running) just pull and hold till the engine dies then release, keep from having to pull then start. Just got to thinking though, you would not want to be carefull about an accidental push start .

Yep! That's the reason that most of the cables pull instead of push.

Real diesels use cables!
