Fuel Smell Question

I have an 02 with a fuel gauge mounted in the cab. I did not use an isolator. I am getting a faint smell of diesel fuel. It is worse on hot days than cold. I guess the gauge is about ten years old. I see no sign of leaks. The salesman at Genos says my diaphragm in the gauge could be deteriorated and just the smell of fuel could be permeating through it. Does that sound right?

Never seen a gauge with a diaphragm, they have what's called a bourdon tube. Guess one could leak but sort of doubt it unless the gauge has had water in it and froze.

I'd pull the guage and check around it for fuel leaking.

A little diesel goes a long way in the odor department. If you have any holes in your firewall or tracked it in on the floor mats from the fuel station you will get the odor too.
