Fuel plate question

Fuel plate question

I had a #6 fuel plate put in my truck (auto tranny), slid forward and the star wheel adjusted. I got it back expecting a huge differance. But I only notice a differance when my overdrive kicks in. It is still sluggish when I take off in the first gears. Is this normal?

yes it is normal you torque coverter sucks and none of you new power is making it to the ground till it locks up

I just installed a BD billet low stall torque converter two weeks ago. Heavy duty shift kit. So I don't see how that could be the problem.

Did you slide you AFC full forward. If you did and it's sluggish on take off try adjusting the smoke adjust screw ( I'm not sure of the technical name) on the end of the AFC. Screw it in about 2 turns then take it for a test drive and if you want more power off the line screw it in farther. This will affect your MPG if you go to far.

Sounds like ur trans still isn't efficient in the pre-lockup gears. Because when it locks up ur getting the true power to the ground. When I switched to the 5spd, it was like lockup in each gear and u could really tell what the power was like. With that being said, just a plate won't give jaw dropping power, it gives a nice boost under heavy throttle. So maybe u were expecting more than what a plate gives.

did you crank up the boost when you did the plate? look into a gsk and it will be more noticeable since you can fuel past 2300 rpms.

Get that GSK!!!

As stated above get the GSK 3000. This will utilize that power your looking for and the power range will feel like it is there ALOT longer. I prefer the #10 plate.Is your boost good? Didn't notice but are those all so important guages installed??? BTW I had just the #10 plate and I thought it was okay but after the GSK I then enjoyed the difference!!

I had the same issue and it was the trans they suck is your convertor a triple disc.

BD's converter is a single disk dual clutch surface plate, I have the same one. I know the guy who put his plate in because he did my plate and my tranny and my HG. He thinks the afc wasn't moved enough so thats probably the extent of it since he said "when he starts out". He never said it was when his rpm's got up so a gsk would be nice but not fix right off the line fuel.

Yeah I think I will set up a appointment with them and see if they can adjust it. Then go from there. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the info! I think a GSK kit will be the next on the list. I just put in a new pyrometer and I am going to order a boost guage in about a week. Then I can see if I am loosing boost somewhere.

I cant say how a gsk affects auto trans trucks, but when I put the 3gsk in my truck with the 5spd, I was driving around thinking it was a new truck. It kinda fools u into thinking u gained alot of power because it pulls through the revs so easy. That in itself makes u think ur off the line power is alot more. Other than injectors, throw a gsk in and maybe move ur plate full forward if its not already.

With a built trans my shift points were moved for when I get a gsk, so now I have a 300 rpm lag right at 2000 rpm's... It sucks bad but I know driving it this way will make me appreciate my 3gsk even more!!

I did a trans upgrade on a stock engine and it was a dog, converter was to tight and turbo would hardly spool up. Put in gauges and a 3gsk and 10 plate together and made the world of difference but even now stock turbo is laggy. Fun when it lights up though. Is it any better if you manually shift the lower gears and keep your revs up?
