Fuel Mileage

My father and I have the same trucks (2006 2500 quad cab cummins 4.10 gears stock) I get about 15.8 mpg on avg. and he gets about 12-13 according to his over head monitor. He drives his truck hard but, even when I drive it at about what I drive my truck at I cant get the over head to go above 14.5 its gotten bad mileage from day 1. Both trucks smoke about the same amount and both have about the same mileage 4500 on mine and 6000 on his. Any suggestions welcomed.

Dunno man. I guess it could be worse.

For reference, In my 07 5.9 I'm getting about 15-16 city and 19-21 highway according to the overhead. I'm sure real world hand calculated numbers will vary, but I really have not checked since the truck only has 1300 miles on it.

I have the 4.10's with an auto & get around 15-16 mpg in town. The highway mileage is better only when the truck is driven at 65 mph (2000 rpm). Footnote - the truck is completely stock with the 265/70/17 tires.

Didn't think you could get the 4.10s with the diesel. I have an 06 quad cab, 6 speed, longbed; bone stock. i was getting around the same kind of mileage numbers you are at 4000 miles. I now have almost 12,000 miles. I squeezed out 19.3 on the last tank that was mostly highway driving real easy keeping speeds around 65 and below.

I don't know if you have tried changing out the fuel filter. I know that my mileage starts to drop once the filter starts getting clogged. Also driving habits & low tire pressure make a big difference.

One thing that I've notice working on my truck is that when it came out of the factory, it wasn't set to specs. I just adjusted my valves. Talk about off!
The #1 exh was off by .015 over. After that I stopped checking & adjusted the valve. It felt like I picked up an extra 50hp.

From reading on this forum I've read that people have when to re-adjust the tone ring (TRM mod). That will help also.

good luck
