Howdy!

It would help if you told us what year of truck you had; I don't know about later models, but on the first generations (1989-1993) the lift pumps were installed on the driver's side of the engine block. They're mechanical beasties and virtually bulletproof. (Somewhere along the line they went to electrical pumps that grenaded every few thousand miles. )

Anyways, here is a link explaining how to install a piston lift pump into a first gen. The piston pump is a more expensive, better flowing pump, but the steps are more or less the same if you just want to install another stock pump.

(Thank you BC847 for the excellent write-up. )

Of course, if you're truck has an electric pump, I don't think that helps any.

Yes, the 1996 is a second generation.

And I think that the second gens had very similar style mechanical lift pumps, and that the electric pumps came around with the third gens in 1998.5. Don't quote me on that one, however.

Uummmmmm..

Hopefully this will help you out..

This is borrowed from Infidel (Bill's) gallery. The lift pump is the little thing right next to the fuel heater housing below the Fuel filter housing. It does have a little plunger so it should be easy to see...

Hope this helps

Rick
