fuel lift pump guru's

just fiished a read about how fass systems dont filter like they claim...so

thinking of home built systems and looking at parker and racor stuff.
..anyone have info on what they did.
..i know unless your running a pulling truck you wont notice the small things.but lets discuss them

and I DONT want the holly black or walbro pump to 15psi regulator to stock
More in depth..


- what size lines?
-do you think the furule and insert when tightened down restrict flow?
-would barbed fittings work better?
-does the stock filter housing restrict?
-installing a larger pick up tube in the factory sump still have restrictionswith that pre filter screen (That sticky had a good write up)
- what about a controller to the pump that could regulate pressure/flow depending on driving needs? like a potentiometer?
how many gpm does your 400hp truck actually use compared to a 275 hp truck?
does the stock filter housing restrict?

etc etc

iam bored and sick of the standard topics

I have heard of the Fuel filter housing being restrictive so Guys run a 1/2" in 1/2" out filter head mounted on the frame. Bypass the factory filter head and put it right into the inlet of the injection pump.

I'd use 1/2" line......and do the Fuel pickup mod in the sticky.

And If it needs to be regulated, I'd do that under the hood on the Dr. fenderwell.

I have always felt those systems like fass were s bunch of smoke and mirrors. Add an electric pump, regulator and new lines and be done. Can't feed more than the injection pump can take in anyway. Those big gpm pumps aren't really any benefit.

The ve has a return line so you can feed it a bunch of fuel and it sends it back. This helps keep it cool.

If you want big fuel put on an aeromotive 1000 and regulator and bypass everything all the way to the I/P and you will have all the fuel you will need.

and what filterhead and filters??

100+ gph pump to filters that are 50 gph seams like a waste

what about a inline air/fuel seperator??

a1000's flow a ton of fuel... for about a year and are really loud.

I think thats the draw back on electric pumps is the noise, my holley black is noisey. as far as a filter just put a remote filter head with a big 2 micron filter, the one i have will flow 25 gal per (MIN).

I can hardly hear my fass with the engine off and when it is running you cant hear it at all.

I'm thinking of going to a Case dealer and getting a lift pump for a 590SM backhoe. Their tank sits lower than the engine block, and it has a 6B, where the 580 only runs a 4B.

It doesn't quite work that way.

Yes the VE has a fuel return port, but it's output is restricted (by design) such that between it and the vane-pump inside, case pressure is controlled.


I'm able to get over 430HP/1000ft/lbs to the ground using 3/8" ID fuel lines and the stock/OEM fuel filter/heater head (I did open up the ports as cast into the head though).

Here's what I did on my truck. The fuel pressure gauge is boring.
