I took my 96 to the local place and let the guy look at it and he said he can't tell if my fuel lines are leaking or the transfer pump. It leaks really bad while running(a constant drip) I'm hoping for it to be the lines. My question is do the pumps crack or leak like this?. I think I'm going to buy the replacement lines and see what happens. I'm just a little hesitat about doing it myself.

There are two lines behind the pump, a 5/16" return and a 3/8" feed. Usually they rot and leak after awhile. Only use a good diesel rated hose for replacement. You may even want to run the hose all the way back to the tank and bypass the metal lines entirely.

The lines aren't too bad to change yourself, just takes time and patience. I would certainly start there, probably needs to be done anyway. If you open the hood and look at the side of the engine above the transfer pump and see the leak, there's your culprit. The return line runs right above that area and is usually the first to go.

Why would you replace the metal lines?

Not replace but rather bypass with hose. I it do because they also have the tendency to spring leaks. Plus it's easier than fooling around behind the engine replacing the short hoses even though it will cost you more for hose.

Most times when the return line rots and leaks it drips down on the lift pump.
It can also drip down on the starter and eventually ruin it.

Thanks for all the input. I believe I'll order the fuel line kit and starter rebuild kit from larry's Cause the starter has hung up on me a few times. Not a fun thing to have happen when theres fuel everywhere.

What length are these lines ?? How much should be replaced with rubber line ?
