I noticed today that the wiring connector for the thermostat on top of my fuel heater was smoking. I unplugged it for now. I have been trying to track down a small leak in the fuel system that lets air in when the truck sits for awhile and hopefully this is where its coming from. Anyone know the part # for the thermostat or know someplace online to order it? The parts guys at my local dealer are idiots and if I dont give them the part number it takes 3 or 4 tries to get the right part.

It might be your fuel heater that is letting the air in your fuel system. Unplug the the connector that goes into the heater element at the fuel prefilter. Check it to see if it wet or smells like diesel fuel. The pins that the connector plug into can overheat and melt the plastic slightly, allowing air to enter the system.

Might not be your problem, but it was with mine, and was tricky to find as I had no active dripping. Not untill the element burned out and took everything apart to replace it, did I discover what the problem was. KD

I changed the fuel filter and checked all the fuel line connections yesterday and dont seem to be getting any air into the lines anymore. The truck sat for about 15 hours overnight and started right up today, normally would be hard to start and a lot of smoke after sitting for just a couple hours. Must have been leaking air in through the fuel filter somehow. Going to swap out the harness/thermostat anyhow since I already ordered it.

Edit: I changed the prefilter and o-ring Friday too, noticed the smoking wires when I started the truck up after I was done.
