Fuel Heater?

Hey Guys and Gals
So I was working on the truck today and i was installing a new throttle return spring when i noticed that there were some wires that were not connected and were broken and melted.
I fuguired out that they go to the fuel heater. so i unplugged the harness and jump on here to see what i could find. I found that alot of people just remove the fuel heater but leave the pre filter. So i found a how to on how to remove the heater. In the how to it said to remove the fuel temp sensor with a t-15 torx. The question i have is if i remove the fuel temp sensor will it leak? why does the fuel temp sensor need to be removed?

Also I was looking at the lift pump and noticed that the rubber boot on the plunger that you use to prime the system is falling off! should i replace the lift pump cause of that boot on just leave it alone?

Thanks for the help!

I haven't gotten rid of my fuel heater, but I believe you remove the whole thing, not just the element. The body should unscrew like the bowl did, and the bowl should screw right in where the FH was.

No reason to change the lift pump, most of ours have rotted rubber.

If the heater isn't leaking there is no real reason to remove it, just disconnect the wires or remove the small relay next to the shutdown solenoid relay on the firewall.
Over heating wires are the reason they start leaking.
Not getting hot = no leaks.

Thanks guys
The heater was leaking in the plug as it is shown in the how to!
I just needed to know if i needed to remove the temp sensor.

As far as the fuel pump gos i will just leave it alone untill it shows sign of wear. when does a lift pump usally go up? I plan to install a fuel pressure asap!

thanks for the help!!!!
