Moved to the 1st gen forum board for better response/reply's.

- Remove the fuel filter and take a big, wide blade something; screwdriver, chisel, etc. and unscrew the threaded pipe that the filter screws onto.

That will let the fuel heater fall away from the head. Time and use of the engine has had the rubber "Square-Cut" O-ring degrade (a common thing with the older trucks).

Replace that square-cut O-ring and you'll be good to go.

Be sure to wipe clean the surface of the head as well (see the footprint of the square-cut O-ring).

Is this the same procedure to remove th fuel heater on the '97 with the 5.9 12v? I have all the parts, new screen w/o-ring, new heater w/o-ring and wirng harness for the heater.(had a melt down). Have tried to remove the heater but not sure. I have the service manual but do not see anything about removing the heater. Any recommendations on this?

Should be nearly identical procedure. I know that with a bit of modding, a 2nd gen heater will fit a 1st gen.remove the spud and the heater should come right off.

The threaded insert on that holds my fuel heater on used a 5/16 allen wrench to remove. Counter clockwise to loosen. Thanks again for the pictures on this. Really helped out.
