Question fuel heater MIA ?

hi
i think my truck has had the fuel heater removed ?

was under there today and could not find it , but i am new to this diesiel !

but i did find what i think are the 2 wires that hook to it ?

the wires are ,one red the other black ,one has a flat blade connector and the other has a connector that would accept a flat blade .
the wires have power when key is on as i put a test light between them !

does this mean i dont have a prefilter , or is there one in the lift pump ?

does this sound right ?

also does the lift pump make any sound when running as i dont hear a thing when i turn on key , but truck starts easy and runs smooth?

thank you !

truck will run w/o lift pump, but not well. will lack power. you probably still have one. there would also be a hole in the side of the engine unless it was plated. check out the pic in this post from infidel to see where your lift pump and heater/prefilter should be:

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=149267

it is directly forward of the lp. if it's all missing, maybe the p.o. put on some kind of after-market system?

The lift pump (transfer pump) is mechanical. It runs off a cam lobe. The most common noise is a clicking or tapping while the engine runs.
Engine will run without the heater, but not without the lift pump. I don't think tThe wires you describe are fuel heater.

Use this diagram to check your engine

ok
i had a test light hooked to the wires and pulled the fuse for the fuell heater and light went out !
so now i know i do not have a fuel heater , also it lookes like i have some sort of odd lift pump ?
the pump sticks straight out of the block , it is app 2 in in dia and has a hex near end with a 90 deg. fitting screwed directly into the end of the pump with a hose hooked to it that prob goes to the tank .
aneyone else got a pump like this ?
it may have a pre filter inside the case but you would have to unhook the hose on the end befor you could put a wrench on the hex and unscrew it ??????
thank you !

That thang sticking out from the block is your lift (transfer) pump. You can see it poking out behind the prefilter/heater in Infidel's photo.

Live in a cold climate? You might miss the heater come winter.

Most areas of the country can get away without a fuel heater, I certainly wouldn't try it in Montana though. The heater is like insurance to keep you from walking in sub-zero temps.
No doubt a previous owner removed your heater rather than repair it because it was leaking

The fuel heater on my 95 uses the same bolts as the lift pump, in other words it's under the pump and the pump has to be removed to remove the heater. Just changed a leaking pump.
