Fuel heater housing

Hey guys

I have a 98 24valve cummins 3/4t 4x4
I have a fuel leak comming from what looks like a sensor that is attached to my fuel filter housing. I called some dealerships and no one can seem to tell me if there is a replacement part(s) or what it is that is leaking. I was told it "MIGHT" be called a fuel heater sensor?? but cant be sure.

I went to Cummins western in Edmonton and was given a new fuel filter that looks nothing like what I have. I was also told to call an aftermarket place, to which I have forgotten the name, and this aftermarket part is not being made anymore.

The one Dodge expert was a little hesitant to tell me to go to a upgraded liftpump and filter system and bypass this other system all together. He stated that it can come with its own filters which are better than any factory fuel filter out there. I have had this leak for about 4 months now, i didnt mind the loss in fuel ecconomy at first, but its getting bad now, and i have developed a bad...serg, or stalling issue from 40km/hr to about 75km/hr and flooring it to get the fuel in there seems to be the only way to smooth out the drive.

My questions are as follows...
(1) have any of you had this leak before?
(2) is there a simple solution that is being over looked?
(3) where can I get one of these aftermarket lift pumps?
(4) can I bypass the old system and use this new lift pump with little issues?

as a side note, i have a 4psi fuel pressure monitering led light put in my truck. I was told that when it comes on and stays on, i am to go directly to the shop and get a new lift pump before it takes out my fuel pump. as of late, the light seems to be going on easyer (little pedal) that before, but still goes out. So Id like to kill two birds with one stone. Hopefully this aftermarket lift pump filter system will clear up all my or atleast most of these issues.

Any help is much appreciated and thank you in advance. Paitently awaiting your replys

#1 - this is a very common problem. I believe the fuel heater can be taken off - but since your in Alberta, I wouldnt really recommend that.

#2 - easiest fix is an Airdog or FASS system with the filters. Pricey but its a big step up and it replaces your junk factory lift pump as well provides much better filtration than the oem filter. Basically sounds like what Cummins told you - I bet you were talking to David there. If you dont want to go that route I may be able to source a used filter housing for you - but it would have to come from the states.

#3 - aftermarket lift pumps can be had very easily. Here at the DTR store, or various sources stateside. Canadian sources are Peak Diesel Performance (www.peakdieselperformance.com), PDR (http://www.piersdiesel.com) and there is NADP (www.NADP.ca) here is Edmonton (if you dont mind paying their premium)

#4 - absolutely. If you get an Airdog you dont need the oem filter housing or lift pump.

BTW, the good pumps have lifetime warrantys on them. also, you need a gauge in the cab - the light is not reliable and doesnt tell you what the pressure is.

Thanks a bunch, Festus told me you are a good guy, I apreciate the help. Can I order a Airdog on this forum, or is the links provided my only option? I trust you guys, and not my self to even begin to understand what i am ordering! Festus told me the Airdog is the best one for my pickup. I had a FASS ordered from NADP, but they took forever to get it in, and I lost interest then, besides, Festus told me the price I got was about $250 more than the Airdog, you guys can supply me with...and YES, I do believe his name was David!

I removed my filter housing and have not had any issues (do use additive every tank of fuel) I also ordered my AD thru the states acouple yrs ago when the dollar was high If I remember correctly it was 600$ to my door, GCL in edmonton carries airdog, but the price was stupid high.
I've had excellent service ordering thru Vulcan performance, they will send things thru the United States Mail,Service, so you dont get hosed with Fedex and UPS "customs fees"
I have an AD150, while good I think its an overkill, an AD100 would have been better (NO drawstraw issues) and will support over 500hp.
