Fuel Gauge Went Dead

When I got into my truck last night it showed half a tank but when I got home it was empty. No sign of a leak so Im thinking its a sending unit. Anybody have any other ideas before I start changing the sending unit? Thanks in advance for your help.

probably float assembly

I think Ive changed out like three float assembly on three different gen 2 truck the float assembly will cost you about 50$ where the sending unit would be about 400$ my 95' would always read good till about 1/2 tank then it would just drop to empty. Just a hunch

Have you filled the tank again to see if it still happens? Sometimes the float can become stuck adn not work. I would try that first and I have read about some people hitting the tank with a mallet and freeing the float. I had a bad sending unit and replaced it. It isn't that hard to do and if you only get the sending unit it would only cost about $50, but if you get the entire float assembly it will cost you the $400. It is an easy fix and then you don't have to worry about running out of fuel.
