Fuel Filter Wrench

I purchased the wrench shown in the photo below and found that it fit my Dodge diesel truck's fuel filter perfectly and besides that it allows me to easily reach the filter from inside the wheel well without having to lie on the ground or attempt to remove it from the top. I haven't actually used it yet to remove and install a new filter because I'm concerned that this type of wrench may crack the plastic casing of the filter (should have thought of that when I purchased it, but the thought came later). Would it be advisable to get the regular band-type of filter in order to minimize the possibility of damage? This wrench would make the job easier but if it means possibly damaging the filter I'll just have to go back to the band-type. Suggestions? Thanks...

You dont need to use a filter wrench to install a fuel filter. They dont need to be that tight. Just spin it on untill it's snug and give it an additional 1/4-1/2 turn. If you using it to remove the filter who cares it it cracks a little. I assure you it wont crack unless it was put on to tight.

What year truck are you talking about? I've read threads that said the filter has a socket drive lug in the bottom but I've never done one so I don't have first hand experience.

Looks like he's talking about his 2007.5 Dale. Fill out your signature so we will know what year truck you drive.
