Someone told me the 6.7's have a plastic screw on fuel filter, is that correct?

Yes they are plastic, and easy to change, I have 68000. miles on my 08 and I have change the fuel filter 6 times and never made a mess changing it. The plastic case is very durable. You just drain the fuel out, unplug the sensor, then unsrew whole filter and install new one. They cost around $28.00

Can someone tell me how to get the wire connector on the bottom of the fuel filter loose. I can't see in there and this afternoon I was trying to squeeze it on the bottom and could not get the connector loose

there is a little clip just like the other connections, you your probably doing it right, just squeeze it and pull down while wiggling it. sometimes it easy to go in through wheel well.
