Fuel filter

Truck has been hard to start in mornings lately so I did a search and got a lot of info about what it could be. First thing I did was to change the fuel hose that runs from the frame to the lift pump. No difference. The fuel filter had been in since last fall so picked up a fleetguard and installed it. Starts much better now. Maybe I jumped the gun on the hose but oh well its changed now. The filter I took out was a Wix. I cut it apart too have a look and it was a dark brown and dirty looking. Now what Im getting at is I have been adding two cycle oil every time I fill up. Only thing is I have been filling at around 275 miles as the fuel gauge hasnt worked for a year or two now. Each fill I have been adding a instant coffee jar full of two cycle oil. Do you suppose this is plugging the fuell filter sooner than it would by not adding the oil. Or maybe its getting a little too heavy a mixture?? Any opinions??

I'm guessing it is just junk in the fuel. How much mileage do you run? The interval is around 20,000 kms (12,000 miles), I believe... well, I try to change it that often, at least.
