Fuel Filter O-Ring?

Fuel Filter O-Ring?
I just cahnged my fuel filter for the first time since I have owned it (1yr 4k miles). There was no O-ring anywhere. I put the new one on the lip of the filter canister so the lid would seal against it when tightened. I guess this is correct? Thanks!

I cannot believe it would not have leaked if there was not one on there. I would contend that it IS there somewhere. It may have just fallen off from being stretched out.
Yes, roll it on to the lid, over the threads, and smear some diesel on it before you put it back on. Kind of like you do with an oil filter....

It was hardened onto the lid, I found it. I don't think it was ever changed before. I did the oil change ( nasty stuff for only 4500 miles) put a new cold air kit on, and installed my SuperChips programmer on tow/haul. The trailer is hooked up right now, so I will get to give it a good test drive during a 6 hour round trip. Thanks guys!
