I have one included with my Ranchhand, but don't really use it-I don't see how you would mount one without some serious bumper modification

A front hitch is on my soon list. Curt Manufacturing makes one, I think others do as well. Frame drilling yes on '06 and later but no cutting anything.

I have a front hitch installed on my '07 4x4 MC. I did not have to cut anything, but I did have to drill two fairly large holes in the frame. I'd say there is about 1/4 inch clearance between the front fender skirt and hitch.

If you have any specific questions, PM me.

I like the one on the red truck in this thread:
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=154079

Pros are it's nice and high compared to the ones that fit under the bumper and it just looks good.

Cons are you lose your tow hooks (which I've never used anyhow) and it's only rated for a 500 pound tongue weight.

The Draw-Tite instructions have you drill a 1-1/4" hole on the side of the frame rail to fish the bolts through. Is this what you mean by large holes? How hard was it to drill?

Thanks

It was a pain in the behind until I got a tapered bit and a right angle drill. It would have been easy if I had removed the bumper. Be sure and have a can of matching black spray paint so you can repaint the raw metal once you have finished the install.

Heres what I want to use it for:

1. Winch mount (10k lb Harbour Freight cheapie)
2. Bicycle rack mount
3. My BIL uses his (on a Dmax) to manouver a small fishing boat into tight locations)

Will the Draw-Tite or Curt model work for those applications??

Keep in mind how low most front hitches are compared to these ones...

I would say yes depending on the hitch weight of the boat and the actual winch capacity. The Curt has a 350 lb weight rating. The Draw-Tite is 500 lbs. Both have a 9,000 lb winch line pull rating.

I put a draw tite on mine. I did not find it necessary to drill the side fish holes (the large ones), but rather once I took the bumper off, I just rotated the the internal crush tubes inside the frame and fished the bolts in from the end. Very easy and less holes.

If I were a smarter man I would have done that...

I
Dad has one on his 06. Had to drill a couple holes... looks nice, but hangs low.

Yeah, but that one blocks the lower bumper airflow.. thou I am not sure if it matters.

Personally I am thinking about the ranch had. I already have a warn 9000 in a basket with syn rope from previous rigs... just need the receiver.

I like the loks of it but don't know if I'd trust it with a winch on it but still might get one for moving my trailer into tight spots.
