FRONT Hitches
Does anyone know if anyone makes a front style hitch for our trucks. This would be helpful to have on, just wondering if it was made or if I have to make it myself. TIA

A few years back some places like JC Whitney listed them, but I haven't found any lately(shoulda bought one back then - who knew?). I was thinking a 2" front mount for a truck camper generator. Really it should just be a fab job from an existing rear hitch, find one that measures out about the right width, maybe a Dakota/Ranger? I think when I checked mine last the frame was a little more narrow up front than rear? Anyways, any competent welding shop should cut/fit one in no time(just look out for fuel/brake lines of course!). :-)

What do you want to do with the hitch? I made a very simple one for my 92. I made it to support the front of my canoe. Anyway it's a long story but I wouldn't pull a car out of a ditch with it. It mounts to the cross member under the truck. I drilled two holes in the cross member and mounted an old receiver to it with two pretty heavey U bolts. Works fine for me. Not a winch mount but a good light receiver.
hope this helps

It is a common and often heard gripe, around here, that Chrysler would build a truck that farmers/loggers/drillers/ranchers are going to buy, and not allow any provision for pulling from the front.
Just get stuck, some time, and you will quickly see what I mean; there is absolutely no good attachment point, under there, to hook a chain, strap, or anything, hence the numerous "sprung" bumpers that you see.
Also, the front bumper attachment method makes installing good strong tow-hooks almost an impossibility.
I am fixing to build several identicle front receivers that will be strong enough to hang the truck from, should one so desire.
I am also going to add connections for fastening a tow-bar, such that I can tow the truck down the highway, just like it were a trailer.
This way, if one of our trucks becomes dis-abled, for whatever reason, I can hook to it and bring it on home, saving an expensive wrecker bill and the need to somehow winch a heavy truck onto the trailer.

I have always intended to make one. My idea was to remove the stock spring hangars and integrate them into a new front cross member with hooks and receiver.
