Front end clicking when turning

I cant find anything wrong with the front end. Its a repeated click when I turn either way. I have put the truck on stands and turned the wheels to see if I could get the click but nothing. Could it be bearings? U joint? There is not play in anything. I am kinda stumped.

Thanks

Most likely it is one of the Ujoints on the axles on the front end.

You can't hear it on stands because the wheel isn't under load.

u-joints

Sounds like u-joints, thats what they sound like as they start goin out. Lay under the truck and grab the axle shafts and shake/pull on them, You'll see which one is bad as to how much slop there is. Definately swap them out before You lose a axle seal, if Yah let it go all Your gonna do cause more work for Yourself and more $$$$$$$$$$$.

Jambbii,
You ever figure this one out? I am having this problem with my 96, even after replacing the axle u-joints in it. I thought sure that's what it was, since the sound went away when I put it in 4x4, but it sitll makes the sound (I have not run it in 4x4 since I replaced the u-joints). When I had to rotors off last week, for turning, I tried to see if one of the hubs was bad, but they are very tight, and I can't tell if there's anything wrong with them.

Thanks,
Chris

Same here only get the clicking when in 4x4 and only when turning , can't be the axle U joints because they turn all the time , Im thinking its my front drive shaft U joints , but doesn"t explain why it does it only while turning , the load on the tires when turning shouldn't affect the front drive shaft as it is in a fixed location , never had a chance to take a good look at it yet I'll post when I figure this mistery out. Unless someone beats me to it.

Update ..... Looks like its my transfer case , it is leaking at the output to the front driveshaft , and if you grab it and shake it there is play where it goes into the case , no play in any of the universals on the driveshaft. Anyone have to fix this before ???? Do I need a hole new transfer case or can it be rebuilt , give me the bad news I can handle it.
