Front driveshaft vibration

OK, I know for a fact that something in the front driveshaft is causing a vibration at 71mph and above because I removed it and the vibration stopped. Has anybody had trouble with their front driveshaft vibrating? If you grease the CV joint that bolts to the transfer case, does the vibration usually go away? Thanks for any help.

I've not had a problem yet with 53K on the clock. But if you've never greased that double cardan joint, that could be the source of your vibration. Alternately, it could be u-joints.

The truck has 67,000 miles. If the joint has never been greased (which i assume it probably hasn't), should I rebuild the joint? I would think that if you run it dry for too long, it would wear out much quicker but how do I know if it needs to be rebuilt?

Don't know about your truck, but on my '03, there was no way to grease the ANY u-joint on the truck! I'd already replaced 2 rear drive shaft joints and both front axle joints (@100.00 a piece! Dealer was the only place to buy them), when I started getting the vibs up front. One of the caps for the double-cardin joint had shattered and half of the cap was MIA!

A few months ago, I learned Federal-Mougal has their Premium GREASABLE u-joints available for our trucks and I ended up replacing every single u-joint on the truck with one of theirs. I bought mine through an on-line retailer, and the 100 dollar rear joints (dodge price) ran me $24.00 a piece, with similar savings on the others.

My brother has an 06 and he tells me you CAN grease the CV joint on the transfer case. He says you have to use a needle and it's hard to find and most people don't know it's there and that you have to grease it periodically. That's why I assume it has never been greased.

I have 62K on my truck and it has never been greased since I bought it with 27K miles. I looked at my front driveshaft and it is not greaseable. The spot for the fish eye in the CV has a plug in it.
I know several people were just buying new driveshafts from the dealer I believe they were only a couple hundred dollars for the complete driveshaft.

I too have a front driveshaft vibration problem at 70 mph. It resonates with a loud "hummmmmmmmmm" in the cab so badly, that it's pretty annoying. Mine also goes away with the front shaft removed.

I have greased my driveshaft, and noise is still there. Mine didn't start until about 40,000 miles though, for some reason.

Has anybody else greased the CV joint on the front driveshaft and found that it did not affect the vibration?
