Front drive shaft u joints???

Well one of my u-joints on the front drive shaft is gone. So I took it off the truck and took it to a couple driveline shops around town here, And no one is willling to touch it they all say they are a pain in the a** to work on and I'm better off buying a new one for about $400.

This can't be true one bad u joint is going to cost me $400 to fix?? If anyone knows an easier way to fix the problem let me know please.

wow, that is probably one of the most pathetic things I've heard in some time. For a shop to say that is beyond lazy and is more along the lines of pathetic. I changed mine out in about 3 hours as it was the first time I did it and I'll bet a good shop can do it much faster. I also changed out the bolts to hex heads so I didn't have to wrench on those dam torx heads again. The double cardan joint with the ball and socket was a bit of a pain but once you do one, they are pretty simple. You just have to figure out the best sequence when putting it back together as their isn't much room.

In fact mine weren't even in horrible condition when I took it apart. They had some mileage on them I honestly I just took it apart to replace it all with greasable units. I got the joints from Autozone and I got the ball and socket from Napa. I belive it was about $100 for it all, but I may be a bit off on that.
That was Spicer and Precision btw.

In other words, you have to find a real shop, whoever you went to, avoid them like the plague ANYTIME you have any work to farm out.

I agree Deesil! If it's a "driveline shop" then it shouldn't be a problem! Our frint drive shafts are nothing special! They are just like all the others! That's like a tranny shop not wanting to touch a tranny! Well, I did mine last year and if you've ever done any U joints they are all the same! Good luck!
