Saw one of those up in BC Canada in a museum along the Alaska Hwy. Probably good for a few megawatts of power when the river freezes over. Then it could be used to power a George Foreman Grill. [eyecrazy] [laugh] [laugh]

Where exactly along the Great Alcan Hiway is that thing sitting??? :o My hometown is right near the start of the Hiway. ;D

Nigel, had to take out my copy of &quot;Milepost&quot; to be sure. Milepost 283 from Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson is the town. The museum is the Fort Nelson Heritage Museum. Their ad lists &quot;Pioneer Artifacts, Highway Construction Display, Vintage Autos &amp; Machinery, Trappers Cabin, White Moose and More&quot;. They have several large diesels sitting around which were used to generate power when the river is frozen. I can't remember if they have one exactly like in the picture but they sure have some big ones.

We stayed at the Westend RV Park, just to the west of the museum. Time well spent if you like old autos and machines.

The Docent for the outside displays, an old guy, owns several of the antique autos in the car barn. ;D ;D

I've been up and down that hiway more times than I can count and I have never had a chance to spend one day looking around Ft. Nelson. It just goes to show that the greatest things are usually right in your backyard. 8) [laugh]

Nigel, we are planning to tow 5er to Alaska next summer. Plan to stop at the museup and take lots of pictures. The antique autos include many old trucks of the 1920 era. Most are in excellent condition. Lots of interesting things along the way. The milepost points out so many things you would otherwise miss. 8) 8)

Sure thing, Nigel. As I remember when we came through in 2000, they had just opened a Super Safeway. Nice store, we stopped to stock up. Good thing when we got to Watson Lake we needed a lb. coffee. All we could find was some that tasted like roasted Moose Patties. That stuff really gave you a surprise in the am. We finally threw the last half away when we got to Whitehorse.
