Four wheel drive engage speed?
I have only had my 94 CTD 5 speed 4 x 4 for 2 1/2 months. I put in four wheel drive the other day and it took about 2.5 seconds for it to show the 4 x 4 light on the dash. The second and third time I tried to engage 4 high it was about 1.5 to 2 seconds. Is this normal for the vacuum engage?? Thanks.....

How fast it engages depends on how much load the drive train is under. Lift up on the throttle and it should engage right away. I would consider 1-2 seconds right away.

When you are on dry pavement the drive chain load will effect the time. Like the other posts said lift your foot alittle to help it shift.
Speed wise? I have shifted in and out at speeds of 70MPH. No problem.
