I'm not even sure what Dodge has the but my F250 has the 3.73 and I like the rpms at 2k when running 70mph. What would the 4.10 give me at 70mph...higher rpms right? Plus dont the 4.10 get worse mileage? Sorry guys i'm not up on the gear thing. I tow a 8500 pound fiver about 12-15 times a year..mostly weekend trips and this truck will be my daily driver.

With stock tires and a 4.10, I pull about 2,250rpm's at 70. Does the truck have an auto or manual. I believe the autos have a lower final drive ratio numerically, which would lower the rpm's a little.

I have the 48RE with 4.10s in my 03 RAM 3500. It's a dually and 4X4 so all this contributes to the mileage numbers. I get around 15.5-16.0 mpg empty. With my 5er (about 10k lbs loaded)I get about 13mpg at about 65-70mph. The rig runs around 2100 rpm at 70 (stock tires).

A lot of people opt for the 3.73 but I've driven the 3500s Hos with both 3.73 and 4.10. The 4.10 pulls much better. That's important in the mountains with that trailer on. I also had 4.10s on my 01 RAM2500 HO 6sp. Loved them then too.

All my Dodge auto's get 4.10 gears. It makes a lot more truck out of it. Go with the 4.10's and don't look back.

The 4.10 will cost you about 1 mpg at 70. I seriously doubt it costs you anything towing, in fact it may help at some speeds. I get about 19 - 19.5 solo running 70.

I am new to the Dodge CTD scene. I too have the 4:10 setup. At 65 mph, I am turning around 2000 RPM.

As I accelerate from there, the RPM's go up quickly. Over 75 MPH, I am above 2300 RPM's. I am unfamiliar with the deisel engine and worry that the engine is screaming. What is the highest I would want to wind the engine.

It appears to have a redline at 3200.

Any help for a rookie?

If you really wanted to or had to you could run at the redline all day long. Cummins and DC put that there for a reason.
Just be careful on gearing down on downgrades as a 410 will kick you well past the redline and thats gonna show up on the computers and maybe as some damage too. I saw a couple of trucks in Alberta that had some damage and the dealer showed me that the redline had been exceeded...one was 4100 rpm!!! The owner said he downshifted on a steep grade in the mtns and then he had some engine noise. I think it was the valve springs on several cylinders. That was way back in the late 90's LOL You can run up to 2500 and higher no problem...it does sound odd though. Thats probably a good thing. ;D

My HO, AUTO , 4:10 Gets 12 - 13 mpg PULLING A 12,000 LB. 5ER. AT 2150 RPM AT 70 MPH. IT'S A SINGLE rear wheel Not pulling it gets 18 - 19 mpg. It's only got 4,200 miles on it. and it will get better i'm told. I love my truck. I did alot of reserch this past winter on DUALLY vs SINGLE WHEEL AND I TELL YOU WHAT! I did the right thing since this truck is a daily driver also.

IMHO auto's require the 4.10 I have a HO 6speed with 3.73 and have lots of Jam but have driven auto's with 3.73's and they are not much of a puller IMHO
