Re:ford diesel article

I forwarded that to my boss, who just traded in a 2001 3500 CTD for a Ford 6.0, without consulting me first of course.

"Steve Lyons, head of the Ford division, said in July that Ford's incentives on its diesel trucks are well below competitors' because our diesel engine is as well received in the marketplace as it is. We dominate this business, and it is because the product is extremely strong"

This guy is the ultimate optimist. Oh well, hope they get things made right for everyone that has purchased one.

This guy needs to wake up and smell the coffee. The reason GM and Dodge incentives are higher is because they want to take away marketshare from Ford. And it's already happening.
Dodge sales are actually growing while the other two are shrinking.

Re:ford diesel article

Ouch. Apparently those who fix 'em can see the writing on the wall...It's a shame Mr. Lyons can't. In the end, it'll cost Ford more money to deny, deny, deny, and make counteraccusations than it will to just recall and fix them all. The more they sell like this, the bigger the class action lawsuit. Now my 7.3L PSD is looking REALLY nice!

I feel for the customer. Loyalty goes only so far when paying dang near $40k for a truck and to have problems like this. I swore off Fords after owning a '92 Ford Exploder.

Not that I needed it, but thanks for the affirmation that I bought the right truck. ;D

Re:ford diesel article

My 14 year old "motor head" son pointed out that an awful lot of ford diesels seem to smoke, especially when towing. I seldom see a CTD smoking. I realize some guys with CTD's like the smoke and turn up the star wheel to get that effect. But Fords just seems to do it all by itself.

Just another 2 cents.

Re:ford diesel article

Go to some International shops and ask those guys about the VT-365 and see what they say. : Yep they are having their share of problems with the International version of the same motor. My brother-in-law has been an International mechanic for 14 years now and he said this is the worst he has ever seen it. He says no one has been trained to work on them and they just keep telling the service managers to thow parts at them and get the trucks out the door. The bad part is they can't even get parts to use, seems the parts system for the engines is on what Navistar calls National Back Order. As parts are being made they are shipped stait to the first shop on the list. Eric said the worst of the problems so far has been a bad vaccume pump, which is also the fuel pump, seperate pumps one unit. ???

Sure makes me glad I'm not the guy with the fleet of new wreckers sitting in my lot. :-[

Re:ford diesel article

I have a couple of horse show friends with the new 6.0 and backed up their living quarters horse trailer and it ran like junk. The idle was looping like a huge V8 gasser with to much cam and thought I would stall it.

They have had it in the shop 3 times with code upgrades but they have been lucky that no major failure yet! I'm glad for my "old" 12V when I see their problems... ;D ;D ;D

Re:ford diesel article

SOME PROBLEMS
you have got to be kidding,
sense feb i have been thought three of them first one blew up sitting in the dealers lots with 100 miles on it while he was assuring me there were no prolems but he was going to run it to the sevice center he droped it in gear and it just flat let go.
seconed one made it about 500 miles before ford replaced it due to lack of power stalling leaks

this one is excellent unless you need to tow then forget it
you can be driving down the road and it will just stop
it has left me sitting three times with two people in wheelchairs, and yesterday ford said they did not want to see it till the buy back paper works was done then bring it in and park it with the others in back.
the dealer has lost many repeat customers of this engine.

he said he was running around 42 % buy back or replecemnt on early build trucks even 04 still have the same problems.

my other cars are dodge 1 ton vans so that is what we are getting this time.
just check dealers prices right now looking for best deal

rick
