Your buddy needs to get his head checked. It is possible for a heavily modded 7.3 to beat a lightly modded 5.9 or something like that but in general, there are far more fast 5.9's than 7.3's.

You buddy been smoking far too many of that skinny funny cigarettes. Although the International is 1.4L larger displacement, all else being equal the Cummins generally will outperform the International.

lol thats what i thought. he says over and over every day that nothing lugs like the 7.3. the thing is you dont wanna lug, you wanna be in the optimal powerband/rpm for that engine. he thinks lugging is everything.

That's possibly one of the most ignorant statements I have ever heard. The Cummins has worlds more low-end torque than the 7.3. That's just the nature of a I6 vs a V8. The Cummins develops its max torque somewhere around 1400 RPM and holds that max torque for almost 1000 RPM above that. The 7.3 develops its max torque at like 1800 I think and drops off quick. Your buddy is bass-ackwards. NOTHING lugs like a Cummins, if lugging is important to you. I own a 7.3 and it doesn't really come alive until 2200 RPM.

Inlines are generaly torquier low down, v-8's have the revs and are normally quicker (I'm thinking like for like HP) That's why the fords and chevy's are fast trucks but stock to stock the cummins has the torque low and will most likely last the longest (again stock to stock)

I loved my 7.3 back in the day, but it doesn't hold a candle to the Cummins. I once beat a stock 7.3 with my camper loaded, & he waws empty. That was when alll I had was a Quad XZT.

Maybe he likes trucks that can't get out of their own way. It cost alot more to get a 7.3 to act tougher than a CTD, and even more to get the mileage.
I d think the 7.3 was the last best thing Ford ever did with diesel engines, but thats about it
