What to focus on on transmission rebuild?
I have got 180,000 miles on my 47re. I bought the truck used 100,000 miles ago. it has been reliable and pulls good on my moutain roads. I have the problem like everyone else where you have to take your foot off the throttle to shift the thing. I do regular 30,000 mile flushes on it, last time the pan was removed there was no metel in it. I am getting a new gooseneck trailer (6000lbs) and want to rebuild the trans before I break it. The trans currenlty is stock, and I do have more Power adders in mind for the motor.
Should I rebuild the whole thing and add the TC and Valve body? or just do the TC and Valve body without rebuilding the whole thing?
I'm gonna have a shop do it.
Any recommended Valve bodies and TC's = Money is a little tight my wife is in the horse buisiness.

Well if your gonna have the Trans out for a TC and VB you might as well replace the clutch packs and what not. Spec-Rite makes a billet TC with a single lockup clutch for $525, and you can buy a shift kit for around $100. Those will greatly improve your transmission, but if you want to spend the money, the Triple Disk TC's from DTT, Goerend, Suncoast, and so on are nice to have, along with a full valve body from them as well.

When you go above 450hp, truck pull regularly, drag race regularly, or tow more than 20k gross... If you don't do any of those on a regular basis or go over that hp amount a good single would do you fine.

Thanks, for the relplies, I do plan on more horses in the future, right now the truck is the family ride but since I can do it now I might as well build a trany on steroids.

Focus in on a good rebuilder. Your trany needs a complete rebuild. They don't last forever. For peace of mind and warranty, get the whole unit torn down and completely rebuilt. It's time.
Focus in on one of the rebuilders that get mentioned (with positive praise) on a regular basis here. There is a reason their names comes up over and over.
Get it done right and don't look back. I run a suncoast single disc. I tow, occasionally get on it, but, nothing really crazy. 35 lbs of boost from time to time. My single hold just fine. Of course, the rest of the tranny has been gone thru as well. KD
