Flooded truck out HELP!

Well a couple days ago my brother went out cruising around down in the bottoms and when he came around a corner his tires slipped of the road and when it did it just sucked him into the ditch, which just happened to be a 6ft ditch that was FULL of water! Needles to say water was halfway up on the hood and there was water in the cab about seat level! Just have a couple questions?

1. What all computers do i have to worry about that sit just below the dash?

2. If the insurance company doesnt total it what will i have to worry about in the future?

By the way when it first went into the water the lights started flashing, the windshield wipers started going crazy, and the windows wouldnt roll up! By the way when they got the truck out we tried starting it and it almost fired up, then it just stopped cranking! And then all it would do is just click when you turned the key? Were thinking that the motor is hydra locked, but there is no water in the oil.

as for the actual damage, i'm sure there are many out there that know more than me about what's going on. as for long term, my buddy's dad had a used car lot where they sold trucks that had been totaled by insurance companies, then repaired. many of them were flood trucks, and they were always sold without any warranties or promises once the truck left the lot, as even after they had been repaired, computer and electrical problems frequently came up, sometimes months after they had been running fine. good luck.

IMO cranking it over was probably a huge mistake. If I were you I'd take the intake apart and find out for sure if water got into it. I had a friend put a rod through his block doing the same thing (luckily it was only a Mazda 3 though).

dain all fluids, clean all computer connections and all other connections with contact cleaner, and add dialectric (sp) grease. replace all the fluids, and pray.

Well its all up to the insurance now! They have the truck at their dodge dealership. We did take the intake off to where it clamps to the turbo and you could easily tell that water was sucked through the turbo! Now that im starting to think about it i just kind of hope that they do total it out!

If you hit the water and it was running, good chance it was too late because the water already entered the motor. Best of luck to ya.

Well Luckily Bob it wasn't my truck, I will tell you I am loving that Smarty TNT/R also. Best mod I did to my truck IMO. A little info on the truck the insurance company picked the truck up today and took it to a dealership and is gonna pull the head to see if water got in there. They said if there is it's totaled. They want 8,000 to buy it back and I was gonna buy it and put a 12 valve in it and use it as a daily driver but that price I thought was a little steep. My brother has all ready found another truck though. I think we are gonna add another puller to our collection!

Huh? He wasn't speeding or nothing he could of barely been creeping along. Just wasn't paying attention I guess and went off the road. only thing is with the river up so high almost every road ditch down there is full of water. Just happened he run off in the deepest one. Not saying he wasn't at fault he should of been paying attention but it happens. If the river wouldn't of been up he might of ended up with a scratched up bumper and it didn't help he ran off the road into the deepest ditch around. There is nothing wrong with the body of the truck no damage at all I mean it only has 38,000 miles and he just added wheels and tires. I really would hate to see them total the truck but if they do it wouldn't be to bad of a deal to buy it back? Just wondering what other problems might be forseen (New word?). Like others have told me they have bought flood damaged vehicles before and fixed them and have had problems with windshield wipers going haywire, lights not working, electronic windows messed up. Just don't want to get in over my head. So what do you think 8,000 worth it to buy it back? Then again it may not even be totaled so maybe I am getting ahead of myself.

New tires and wheels?(is it lifted) Just cruising the "bottoms"? Tires 'Slipped' off the road? Sucked into a ditch? River up high.Thats like a home run ball "picking up speed",it defies the laws of physics! Clinton never inhaled or had sex with Monica.Buying it back and fixing it is your gamble but it sounds ruined.Got any pictures of it in the "bottoms" or in the ditch? Photos of the air filter? We all LOVE photos.

no the truck doesn't have a lift I said he added wheels and tires nothing about a lift (Are you a physics teacher) He was heading to a buddies house he duck hunts with not just cruizing looking for a big ditch full of water to hit! No didn't get any photos I guess the first thing that came to my mind was not well lets take pictures to show Hounddog. it was lets get this thing out of the ditch and try to figure out what is wrong with it. I would say "Tires slipped off the road" is a little far fetched but I did say he probably wasn't paying attention and ran off the road. No he was not drinking and not speeding. I guess in your lifetime you haven't ever made a mistake or got in an accident? If you want I can have the insurance company take pictures of the air filter and I will get them up for you, if your truck was in a ditch would the first thing you would do is take pictures right? When i pulled the intake tube off the turbo it defiantly had water in it. Thank you, do you have anymore helpful suggestions hounddog?

If that same story was told to the insurance adjuster you can bet he's still shaking his head.Helping the Michelin man hunt his pup would have been just as good. Nuff said
