Fleetguard Stratapore Oil Filter

So I wised up and went with a fleetguard stratapore oil filter.

What a difference in just the way the oil looks on the dipstick. Instead of it being black and sooty (if thats a word), it is almost and I stress almost as clean as when I changed the oil and filter (2500 miles ago). For what it's worth I am also using valvoline premium blue oil (10w40).

Has anyone else noticed this? Or does my truch have a leak and the lucky elf keeps putting new oil in.....

Thanks for all the suggestions and help thus far!

Wow, an oil change every 2500 miles?? No offense, but I think that is overdooing it. Yes, the Stratapore is a great filter - therefore you dont need to change your oil that often.
5-8k is a little more reasonable.

You are using 10W40??? Im not sure that Ive heard of that flavor before....or do you mean 15W40?

I change the filter 1 time each month...

$11 X 12=$132 (per year)...I spend more than that on coffee...

change the oil every 10k

and the oil stays NICE and CLEAN...

AND Lary (here at DTR) is trying to get filters for us ! so they will be cheaper(less expensive)

You are right johnh. I change the oil and filter every 7500. Yeah I guess it is 15w40... sorry the Tahoe is still in the fleet and she loves her 10w30.

Dr. Evil, no worries.

But no one has answered my question....

Did any of ya'll notice much cleaner oil when you switched? Mopar filters are supposed to be fleetguard right? The oil wasn't this clean. So it goes, but it is friday, and I just got home. Time for some beers!

I switched from Delo to Rotella last oil change, but used the standard Fleetguard filter again, LF3959 I think. I noticed my oil looks a lot clearer at 3400 miles than it did around 3000 w/ the Delo. My driving routine is pretty much the same. I was thinking maybe the Rotella had less detergent or something. Does the ULSD have any effect on this, I changed oil about the same time it became mandatory around here?

Still doesn't look like anyone has answered your specific question, so I will. I had that same experience. I buy my filters @ Freightliner in Portland since my cousin is shop foreman and I get them for a decent price. The only trouble with that is the parts guys don't always get you the right filters by just giving the application. I got standard filters once instead of the Stratapore and the oil blacked right away. Checked the #'s and sure enough not a Stratapore. Took the others back and replaced the one I had already installed. Now i ask for the filters by # and get the right ones. I currently have over 3,000 on my oil and is just now beginning to turn a little bit of color.

Thanks Russ.

I am not trying to make a pitch for Fleetguard, but I have used Baldwin, Wix, Mopar and now the Fleetguard stratapore. I have seen a difference at least in what appears to be quality of filtration.

I am very pleased with the product and think they are worth every penny, but if we can get them even cheaper here, that's even better.

I had a detroit allison oil filter once and it worked as good as the fleetguard stratopore. I think it was a fleetguard or baldwin rebadged actually

Answer to your question, yes I do notice it. I actually check my oil on the truck....unlike my 230,000 mile saturn work bomb. After I change my oil I can watch it, checking it about once a week or more and noticed that it stays clean(like it looks new). It stays this way up to around 3000 miles and then it will start to get dark and that is usually when I end up changing it. Well, I did 3000 mile oil changes when I ran the Valvoline and Smelltella, but now with the Schaeffers I'll be going 5000 mile intervals.

Hope this answers your question.....
