Question fitting 01 aluminum rims on 98

hey yall...

I know 2001 aluminum rims dont fit on a 98 year 3/4 dodge.

cant they be fit somehow??? grinding or milling the rear drum down a bit.

we just put one rim on the front end, seems to work,

but how on the rear?

thx a lot guys

You would probably have to mill the rear drums, or just get some 3rd Gen wheels. I have a pic in my gallery.

late model 2000-2001 rear drums swap onto the earlier rear ends iirc the shoes are the same and ther are no fins and the wheels you are talking about then should fit. we did something to that effect for my buddys 97 and got my 02 wheels to fit him

I just pulled the drums and took them to a machine shop. I had them take about 3/16" off the lip of the drum. Its a close fit but it works. I have about 1/16" or so of clearance. My truck is a 1997 and the wheels are from a 2001.

Yes they do. The outer lip on the rear drums need to shaved a bit. They fit the front of mine fine.

To fit them on my 98 I had to "clearance" the spindle area by the tie rods and the drag link. The rears also had to be machined down.

He could do that, but he may be like me and have the opinion that the newer 17's are much uglier than just about any other factory wheel when mounted on a 2nd gen. To me something about them just doesn't look right on our trucks. The aluminum wheels though are sweeeeet.

Charles, ask one of the local dealers who puts the rims on for them, as it is usually the shop that does the swap that keeps them, around here at least.

You still running the same BFGs?
