First time in the shop

Took my truck in today the windshield washer quit working. You would push the button and nothing would come out. You could hear the pump but no fluid, just like if it were out of fluid. There was fluid :P. When I picked it up they said that a wire had come out of the harness and was grounding it's self out. I don't know why I could hear the pump running and nothing was coming out but it works know. Alos had them cange the oil $83.00 will do it my self next time.

Re:First time in the shop

On the first 03 CTD's someone was a little over zealous when the installed the oil filters at the factory and must have used jack hammer to put them on. Other than that all you need is either an type cap oil filter wrench or one that closes down on the end when put on a wrench to grap the flutted end of the filter.
$83 that's ridiculous

Re:First time in the shop

Find a friend ! I have one that owns a quick lube. He does my truck himself...check and fill everything, clean out the inside, replace oil (rotella) and I supply the filter....$29.00!!!!!!

Hard to believe and I about fell through the floor when he said "$29.00". "thank you very much! Will see you when it is time for the next one"

Only charged $35.00 to do our 4runner with mobil1 syn!!!

I almost feel bad it's so cheap.....

Wonderful man to know...I must have him over for dinner!

Re:First time in the shop

I am quite friendly with the local "Rapid Lube" owner myself, he doesn't give me a discount, but it's still only 36 clams. That is for Valvoline Blue 15w40 and filter. Last time I replaced the air filter and added two pints of anti-freeze (orange) and the bill was 66$. I thought this was a little steep, but I always replace the air filter if there is any question at all, and it was, I think 24$. I suppose I could shop around and find one for much less, but I like to have it on the service record that he provides me with that it was changed. That way I have it documented exactly what was done at each service, and it makes for a tidy maintenance record. :Hmmmm.... considering all of the above I'm thinking that $66 is pretty cheap every 5k miles.

Re:First time in the shop

Amen Old School!

Your deal sounds even better than mine.

documentation is everything....You and I have it good. Our time not wasted crawling around the truck, cleaning up the mess, getting the oil and disposing of the used oil and filter.

I use stratapore (sp) filters. My guy does not carry these so, I choose to bring my own.

Also, they added antifreeze, very small amount, wiper fluid and checked tire pressures and ASKED what I wanted them at. Top notch service from this guy! 8) I was really impressed.

Re:First time in the shop

We pay $51.00 to have the oil and filter changed at our dealer. Same price I have been there on my previous 1996 diesel that I purchased in 1995. $83 is out of line.

Actually with a fluted oil filter wrench changing the oil on a '03 CTD is a breeze. First filter may be tight. 4x4 you won't need ramps. I fit under my 2wd.
