I use Rotella. Have used it for years and have never had any problem with it. I get it at Walmart.

Filter: Baldwin, Cummins or Dodge for oil and fuel only in my opinion. Do some websurfing about denied warranty or other problems using wix or fram etc. Also, Baldwins fuel filter is supposed to have the best filtration available that will fit in your stock housing. There are several good aftermarket fuel pump / filter combinations out there also.

I just ordered several Baldwins from adiesel.com

genosgarage.com also sells the Cummins oil and fuel filters

If you need to change the oil now go to any Cummins dealer first and buy an oil and fuel filter from them. If you do not have one go to a dodge dealer and expect to pay more. Then you can order online and save yourself some money. Keep all of your receipts.

Any CI-4+ or CJ-4 15w40 or 5W40 diesel oil will serve you just fine. Baldwin, fleetguard (cummins) donaldson are all good and cheaper than the crappy filters at auto zone or whatever. Some wally worlds have mopar filters which are rebadged fleetgaurd.

6.7 can't use the CI-4+ engines oils like the 5.9s can due to the higher ash content. Some claim the CI-4+ oils are in some way better than the CJ-4 oils. Personally in a 5.9 either a CI-4+ or a CJ-4 will take care of you just fine.

I have used royal purple full synthetic in mine for over a year now and i really like it. It stays clean longer. I was raised on Rotella T thats what everyone used around the house. Then around 05 when everyone's 2nd gen dodges was starting to leak oil I started hearing rumors about Rotella putting too much detergent in their oil and it was cleaning the gaskets out. Rotella does make a 5w-40 synthetic for diesels but i don't know whether it will work in the 6.7, it should tho. The royal purple ain't cheap but i think its really good oil.

Get a bigger drain pan that holds 15 quarts. and when you take the filter off, crack it loose, then slip a baggie over it to catch the mess. Let it fall into the bag then lift it up and close it tight. Also stop by the dealer and pick up a spare drain plug and several plug gaskets. it doesn't take much to snap the plug or mess up the gasket when tightening.

Sounds like good advice to me.

I *highly* recommend Rotella T6 for synthetics, or Valvoline PB or Delo 400 for non synthetics.

Stick with the CJ-4 oil. It's better overall. The "superiority" of CI4+ is way overblown.

DIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTOOOOO!!!!!! Most UOAs I have seen with CJ-4 has had awesome wear numbers and since most of us change our oil WAAAAYYY before the additives are depleted CI-4+ advantage is nullified.

I am a first time diesel owner myself and I have been using Delo with a K&N filter (they have been good to me on my previous gas truck) every 5-6k miles. I was spending a lot of money on regular oil so I switched to Amsoil, because I have had a lot of luck with synthetic oil in the past. They guarantee the oil lasting 25k miles or a year. I switch it out every 6 months which is about 6 to 7 thousand miles and check the level of my oil quite often. My 5.9 uses the Amsoil EA080 filter which is $18.85 and I use 5W-40 at $26.20 a gallon for three gallons it is $78.60. The total is $97.45. It might seem a little spendy, but in my opinion it is the best oil around and you can change it every year if you need to. I was spending $65 on Delo with all the filters, so the extra $35 is worth it to me. I use my truck to commute and to haul our trailer every so often, so I am not too hard on my oil. I also use their air filter EaA189 and that is good for 6 years, I think it was around $50. I do not change the oil myself; a local shop charges me $20, for them to do it. They do a great job and I don't want to deal with all the used oil and the hassle of climbing under my truck in our wonderful wet weather. Here is the Amsoil website for the 5.9; http://www.amsoil.com/mygarage/vehic...0HD%20PICKUP+C
Hope this helps.

I don't like rotella oil, it smells the interior of the truck up when running. Everyone says it's only for a short period after the oil change, but why put up with it at all... I have used mobile Delvac since day one and never had any issues and no smell like the rotella.

DO...
-get Fleetguard or Mopar filters...
-change the fuel filter during every other oil change (again use fleetguard or mopar).
-drain the fuel canister to remove any water
-call up genos and get your filters from them, fast delivery, and good prices...

DON'T....
-get one of those fancy drain pans with the little hole in top that allows oil to drain into the pans bottom. The hole is not big enough to keep up with the oil as it pours out of the engine and you wind up with a HUGE mess on the floor (don't ask me how I know).
-don't over tighten the oil filter, fuel filter, or drain plug and you shouldn't need to replace them... I am on 20+ oil changes and still have the original parts and no leaks... I just make sure not to put to much leverage on the ratchet with tightening (just grab the gear head to tighten instead of using leverage on the end of the handle)...

Good advice. Too many people think those parts are holding the truck together and tighten them up with all of their might.
