Well the truck now has 6000 miles on it. I am taking it in tomorrow to have the first oil change and have them check everything out and change the rear dif fluid. Should I have them change the trans fluid as well? What other things do i need to request ?

if your like me and scared to death of working on your truck even for a simple thing like the rear end, go for it and try it yourself... I just did my front and rear end change after long debating on wether I should try it and possibly screw up or spending $400+ at the dealership. Well I tried it and kicked myself into the next county on second guessing myself. It was soooooo easy. Next weekend i'm doing my oil change and i'll see how that goes.

SO, my moral of this thread is, if you have the short amount of time to do it, you will save your self AT LEAST 300-400$ by doing this stuff yourself...

Good luck.

I do all my own service work, piece of cake, nothing is really hard to do. Just think of all the STUFF you can buy with the money saved - good reason?

I think the axles are required around 24,000 along with the tranny also.

Both are very easy and only about 15 minutes to re-fill. Hardest part is getting the fluid INTO the rear/front diffs. Usually a 12" piece of rubber hose connected to the bottle and stuffed into to the diff works the best or at least better then just straight from the bottle.

I think i can change it myself, but this will be the first time the truck has been taken in to have things checked out so i thought i would have them do the maintanence as well. I figure after first service i will do it myself.
