First Oil Change....Piece of Cake!!

I really don't see what the big deal is. : Drove it up on ramps....pulled the pan plug....took the filter off with 6 in 1 oil wrench....filled new filter with oil....screwed back on.....put plug in pan.....filled with remaining oil.....cranked her up and idled for 5 minutes or so.....shut her down and checked oil level.....full. From listening to you guys talk I thought this was gonna be difficult....but it was no different than any other oil change I've ever done. Did I miss something?? ???

If you do a search on this subject you will find the only thing listed about the oil change being difficult is when some of the filters were over tightened at the factory. Mine also came off easily. I didn't even have to use ramps, just crawled under the truck. On my 01.5 it was a different story. On it the filter was installed at the factory by Bubba with a breaker bar. I understand that Bubba has been given his walking papers due to the amount of complaints on the over tightened filters.

Re:First Oil Change....Piece of Cake!!

You didn't mention how much, or what kind of oil or what kind of filter. Seems you had everything else covered there. :

The way you worded your post makes me think that we imagined our difficulties; that was not the case. Maybe they screwed the filters on not as tight on the wimpy 2WD.

Drove it up on ramps....
Ramps? Who needs stinkin' ramps.

;D ;D I can get a 5 gallon bucket under mine with enough room to get a ratchet in there too, with the truck on the ground. ;D ;D

I can almost sit crossed-leg-indian-sytle under mine to change the oil, if I was so inclined.
(actually wouldn't be inclined, since that is an angle )

I too had an easy time of it...the gorilla putting on filters at the factory took a smoke break.

Heck, I change my gear oil in my diff with a 5 gallon bucket. ;D Oh wait, that's the other truck. 8)

So you picked up on that, huh? [Wyatt from Tombstone]"You're not as stupid as you look, Ike."[/Wyatt from Tombstone] :P ;D

I do. ;D It's much more fun changing the oil when the oil pan isn't touching your nose. I can't believe how low the 4x2's sit in the front end. Makes me wish I'd have sprung for the 4x4 even though I don't need it. :

Yes. I bought the ones rated for a 12,000 GVW vehicle. Each ramp is rated for 3,000 pounds if I remember correctly, but I could be wrong because that doesn't really add up. The thing with ramps it to ALWAYS work from the FRONT of the truck. That way if your brake lets go and your wheel chocks let go then the truck rolls away from you and not OVER you. NEVER put yourself in a situation where you could be run over by a tire if the brakes let loose. I've seen a guy end up with lots of broken ribs because he did that...

Re:First Oil Change....Piece of Cake!!

Thanks, hope the ramps will be ok. Not really sure i'll need it tho. I'm one of those 'stick ppl' mentioned above

You guys have it so easy you don't even know ;D. Wanna try getting under my E300 with H&R sport lowering springs, Bilstein Sport shocks, and 18" wheels? LOL. It wont even go up on the ramps, it can't clear them the floor jack won't even fit under the side skirts, I have to actually use the factory jack to lift it up a bit, to get the jackpad under the car. Even once it's jacked up so both sides wheels are off the ground your nose is touching the pan
