My son has come up with a truck that he is interested in but is not sure of the value. Opinions would be appreciated.

It is a 1993 4wd, regular cab, five speed, cummins, 2500, all power accessories, cloth seat. It has 173,000 on it but is in almost new condition. It is red outside and in.

Ok, the asking price is $9000 and my son is looking for the cash value to start bargoning to purchase it. Any ideas would be a real help.

9k sounds a little high to me. Is the truck really in almost new condition? That will bring up the value some, as will the fact that it is a 5 spd. Even if it is in like new shape, it is still going on 14 years old with 173,000 miles. There will be wear on the drivetrain (not counting the motor ) but getrag trannies are expensive to replace and can have problems if they are not overfilled.

IMO, if the price is 9k with 173k miles, it better be in like new shape, inside and out.

That seems steep for a regular cab...original owner? Any service records? I'd lean towards 6500 on the outside. I can hear Bglibert laughing

paid 8K for my 91 W350 with 173K on it back in 2003 and afterwards found several trucks in equal condition for the 4-6K range....
nless there is something special about this one, I'd keep looking.

there area alot of "decent' trucks out there for less than that.....

Sounds high too me. Somewhere between 5-7k would be fair more if its mint. I paid 6500 for my truck in april. It has some rust but it was close by and exactally what I wanted. I have seen some first gens get crazy high prices. Things seem to have simmered down lately.

As far as value goes, when I was looking to sell mine, most said that it was worth what someone would pay for it. I think it is hard to put a dead set value on these trucks. However, I would defiantely shop around, I think that you will find trucks in similar if not better condition for less money.

You have to keep in mind though that this is a southern truck which makes it worth much more than the northern ones. I would say that is a little high for a regular cab. Probably worth more like around 6 to 7,000. NADA high retail is 7325.00 so that is a good idea of what a dealer would get for it but in the case of our trucks it is not always a good indicator of value. I would offer 6,000 or 6500 and then bargin up from there. I have been offerd 8,000 for mine and turned it down, but I am not looking to sell mine either. Mine is a club cab however and I knew the original owner and how it was maintained and driven.

i know of a 92 4x4 auto with no rust and will have fresh white original paint. with upgraded pump and inj. (high output) the added trans cooler. 95k on it . i knew the gentleman that bought it new and it pulled his gooseneck twice a year to the local tractor show and his house trailer alittle . never been wrecked , paint fell off. like new , no rattles , no body cracks everything works . if it was a stick i would own it i know the owner now he got the bug and bought a new crewcab. i told him 10k

BTW, I just paid $4000 for my 92 W250 Club Cab LE 4wd Auto with 280K...... Its kinda rough since it was a construction / farm truck....

I paid $3000.00 for a 92 le d250 185,000 mi with lots of work the prvious owner did the body had alot of scratches and dings

Paid 10K for my '93 club...however, it seemed to be in exceptional shape. It only had 70K on the clock and was in a lot better shape than some of the 2nd generation trucks in my area. I have to agree than 9k sounds a bit much for the truck you're looking at, and others have bought for less. Ultimately, it's worth what someone is willing to pay. But I've seen these older 1st gen. trucks with 250k bring all the money. The engine in the truck you're looking at is the strong point, everything else could need attention. Keep this in mind when it comes to sitting down and talking money. If it's a cherry I might start at about 7k and see what happens. Good Luck!

I bought the '92 in my sig 4 months ago. It was about as "like new" as a 14 yo truck can be with a few simple mods as well. Had 192,000 on it and the guy was asking 10K. I offered him 8 and we settled on 8500.

Curious what everyone thinks the values are now? I bought my truck in sig for 8k and thought it was a good deal for a clean unique set up with somewhat low mileage for the age. Is the first gen bubble still going? I was seeing them listed for 20-30k but havent looked recently.

I need to keep importing these trucks to Hawaii- that truck is worth almost double that here!

Seems 9-15k is the going rate for a "solid" non show truck with show trucks or super clean examples being 25k plus. no idea if the bubble is near popping or not.
