Finally did it, 01.5 in the driveway and mods to come

Finally did it. Got a Cummins. Traded in my 04 GMC 1/2 ton 5.3 for it.

This is an 01.5 short box quad cab, HO 6 speed. Dark Garnet Red. Only has 32,000 miles on the odometer(hopefully legit).

Was bought in July of 01 so I have a little over a year left on the engine warranty.

Pretty happy. Runs nice. Was getting 18.4 MPG going 75-80 on the way home. Compared to 14-16 with my 5.3.

For mods. I have a couple of things I need to do. Air filter looks dirty, so an air intake kit is going to get ordered. I can get a K&N FIPK for $175 shipped, so I am leaning towards that. AFE or Airaid or any others any better?

Gauges(fuel pressure, boost, and EGT) are mandatory.

Local exhaust shop said $370 installed for 4" straight pipe, turbo back with a chrome tip.

What really needs to be done is rhino line the bottom of the doors and rocker panels. Very rock chipped. Probably get the box done too. Tailgate needs to either get repainted or replaced.

I am still undecided on a box. Leaning towards a Comp box and just running it in EZ mode until I get some money for a clutch. Found them for about $500. Or the other thing I was thinkin about was a VanAaken which I can find for like $270.

Probably will get EDM injectors and clutch next year.

Tomarrow, I'm going to change the oil and figure out how to do the fuel filter.

Heres a picture

Congrats! Nice rig. My second favorite color next to patriot blue Look into the paper element BHAF for excellent filtration and good flow at a fair price. JMHO. 370 for the exhaust seems fair--as long as they're making mandrel bends. Check on that before you spend your hard earned $$$

how about some gauges before you put on a performance box... upgrade the fuel system then toss on the Comp and EDM's with a clutch.

Question on BHAF

Tried searching but came up short

NAPA 2790 is listed as working. My buddy works at NAPA and can get me one at cost probably.

What do you need to hold it on the tube? Stock clamp if there is one?

What about holding it in place?

I see the outerwears which looks like a good idea

If your gonna spend the $$$ on a filter system get an AFE over a K&N. I ran both on a previous truck and the AFE flowed A LOT more air than K&N. The EGT gauge told the truck about that one right off the bat, and several more times as the miles piled on.

Well, ordered an AFE Air Intake kit off EBAY. $195 shipped. Probably will get a prefilter eventually.

Probably will do the rhino liner stuff next

Good deal on the AFE, however don't waste you hard earned $$$ on Rhino Liner especially for rocker panels. Get Line-X!

Glenn..............that is a nice looking truck. I can't use a short bed but nice still the same.

If you want a very strong clutch, go with South Bend. For the money call Carolina Clutch. Not the same material but a good clutch.

On a box for the 24 V, call TS Performance about the Ramifier. Edge is going down hill. Dennis at TS will fix you up. Or talk to Jacob. He knows his stuff.

And did anybody say gauges? They don't do any good but they look cool.

You did good on the AFE but don't go with a straight exhaust. The dron will wear you out.

With the injectors, 275's with the honed process. The soothest you will see.

There, that's my opinion.

he HAS to be kidding...
i wouldn't use any injectors besides DonM's EDMs. Cost a little more but they are the BOMB for quality, support and smoothness/driveability! Also, instead of a box, check out the replacement ECM (Marco's MadECM or aka Catcher ECM).

Ok OK OK I'm keeding. I didn't think y'all would notice.
Gauges are necessary.

The only injectors used around here are the Extrude Honed . Without a lot of fireworks, they are just better.

And one more thing about the clutches. The South Bend clutch for my money is the best on the market. Bar none. Peters clutches are not cheap, but you get the quality you pay for. If you want a clutch that will hold stock power and thats about all, then the other will work . In todays world you get what you pay for and the people you deal with means as much as the product. When I said call Carolina Clutch for a clutch, I mean you will get what you pay for. Peter is the only person I will buy from. His product is top notch and the customer service is second to none.

That said, I"ll go get in trouble womewhere else.

The way extrude honed injectors were explained to me were pretty much take a stock injector, then run some real abrasive stuff through it until it wears to the point it flows more. Voila! I don't care for the idea myself, EDMs sound much better.
