I finally checked my fuel pressure. I bought the "Brian Hopper's Fuel Pressure Kit" from Advanced Diesel Technology. And it hooks up at the schrader valve. ( I guess I had it at the right spot? the line running from the filter to VP had a plastic cap I unscrewed and guage threaded on there?) Guess I had the right spot? The schrader valve sorta pointed to the left tire and down? Didn't look like a normal schrader valve though????

RESULTS: 6 psi. @ idle
3 psi. @ 1/2 throttle
0 psi. @ wide open running down the street rollin' coal burnin' tires!

Needless to say, this is NOT GOOD... correct? What next? I don't know if I want to replace the lift pump with a stock one. I don't know ANYTHING about the holley pumps... or the FASS for that matter. FASS is probably the best bet, huh?? FASS is $500-$600... How do the holley setups compare.... both in performance, price, and ease of installation??
I'm strapped for cash right now, but if its gonna be better to run the FASS in the long run then that's the road I'll take.??

IS THERE SOMETHING I'M OVERLOOKING HERE? AM I GETTING CARRIED AWAY FOR NOTHING? Because the truck runs great! I've never noticed any problems. I just know that fuel pressure is critical on these engines so I decided to check it. I just have to wonder because I've never had any performance issues with the truck. I did check the pressure in the right spot???
It wouldn't have anything to do with my injectors... would it??

Any and all help is greatly appreciated,
-Ryan

Check again with the new filter, but if you still have those numbers, you have a decision to make. There are TONS of options such as:

1) Just buy and install a new OEM pump in the same location
2) Relocate the OEM lift pump back to the frame
3) Add a pusher pump like a P4600 on the frame
4) New lift pump in stock location, but make it's life easier by adding a Smart Fuel system from Scotty (or similar).
5) RASP
6) AirDog
7) FASS or FASS II
8) Some other custom pump / filter / regulator setup
9) Some combination of the above.

There are lots of opinions on what to do. Some have tried options in the 1-4 range and ended up going with something in the 5-6 range. Some are still very happy with a solution from the 1-4 range.

But I'd suggest, with your BOMBs, doing more than just option #1. I am setup a bit more mild, and I believe my 2nd LP is acting funny at 51000 miles... so I'm thinking of just getting a FASS and be done with it.

Whatever you do, I urge you to consider a fuel pressure regulator. Bosch opens the overflow at 14psi, and running pressures much over this is a bad idea for long term usage.

A regulator will give you a rock-steady FP under all conditions. Try an Aeromotive regulator that bypasses extra fuel-- this is the way to go, imo.

Thanks guys! I'm putting together some ideas and gonna get something ASAP! I'm also looking at that Essex pump that Edelbrock sells. Lots of good stuff out there and I'm sure anything is better than what I have now so... Thanks alot for all the help and ideas...

Thanks,
