Filter minder problems (never heard of this)

My filter minder is always sucked down completely, per my Bruteforce intake. This has been discussed many times and has been "deemed" normal. Now, all of the sudden, it isn't sucked down at all... Do these things spring a leak? Maybe being sucked in all the time has worn it out?

So now I want to remove it entirely and am thinking of ways to "patch" the hole. I'm thinking some RTV, a small piece of thin plate steel, and some duct tape... Any other ideas...?

On my stock airbox, I used a large bolt, two washers and two rubber gaskets I made from an inner tube.

On my AFE Stage I the minder connected to the intake with a short rubber hose. I used a bolt and a hose clamp on that one.

Both worked fine. No leaks, and no filter minder giving false information.
