Filler Neck anti siphon ball

My filler neck rubbed on a piece of body work until it started leaking like a sieve when I filled it. I noticed there is an anti siphon ball in the neck. Would removing that device make filling go any faster?

Yes, much faster. But when you roll the truck and the puddle of fuel catches on fire and burns you to death, don't go crying to Dodge.

Mine never had one (C&C truck). There is about a 4 or 5 inch filler tube that sticks up just over the frame rail under the flatbed. A little bit of a reach for filler hose... However, it takes as big a nozzle as will fit - I can use the big high flow nozzles that semi's use - makes filling the tank a breeze.

Of course if I was to be turned belly up, the fuel could come out as fast as it went in...

Zero to $100.00 in 10 seconds flat.

The thing is, diesel doesn't burn very well at all. Throw a lit match into a puddle of diesel and the match will go out.

I'm not sure if that's right. I've used diesel to start bonfires a few times, and I've seen stupid drunk people pour diesel into fires and it seemed to burn just fine.

You're both correct. Diesel is categorized "combustible," whereas gasoline for example, is "flammable." Big difference. By itself as in a puddle like Dan stated, it won't burn. But under extreme compression or on a surface or surfaces like a brushpile that allows fumes to concentrate and it becomes a great internal combustion fuel or fire accelerant.

Stupid question: If the cap is on eht eneck, how is it going to run out as fast as it went in? I realize the cap is vented, but to go out at a fast rate? What am I missing here?

When was the anti-siphon ball added? I have a mostly original '91 that I know did not have the filler neck fooled with (family "heirloom" truck) and it has no filler ball, and will take the high flow nozzles at the fuel station.

BTW, those high flow things are great. At the lowest setting I can fill my tank in under a minute.

I don't think there is one in mine either. And I am not turning it upside down to find out.

If a person's truck does have one, where does one look to remove it and speed fuelling? I am getting tired of having to hold my tongue just right to fill the tank.
