Fender Swap Info
Does anyone have info, or a link, on front fender removal and replacement on the 1st. Gen. body??
A good tech article on the subject would be appreciated.
Any information/advice from anyone who has done a fender swap would be also appreciated.
Also, what year spread is compatable with a 90 model??
Thanks.

I think that '81 thru '93 will interchange. From memory you should pull the cowl off via screws along the front. Take the grill out and there are 3-5 bolts along the edge by the headlight. Bolts under the fender well lip and along the bottom edge closest to the door from underneath. Open the door and I think that there should be one bolt there too a long extension works well here. And the bolts that hold the hood to the hinge. This is all from memory so don't shoot if I missed one or two. Good Luck

I've taken off both fenders. You must have help taking off the hood and then the fenders come off with many bolts. Remember the position and number of shims on top so the fender will go back in the right position. The grill needs to come off also and don't forget the one in the door area that's a bear to get to without a u-joint and a long extension. Other than the hood it's a one man job though. I consider anything that doesn't require welding/cutting or heavy lifting to be pretty easy.

Yes the 1981 throu 1993 are all the same fender line and all major difference is the grill's and core support when I did my swap my donor was a 1993 so I used everything from dash foward and its all a bolt in thing lined right up .
