We'll have to wait for the details, but I guess our February meet will be in Alvarado. We had a good time there last year. :)

Sorry I missed you guys at Brian's! :(
Had a communications SNAFU with our itinerary down there that didn't leave enough time for the round trip.
We'll be in Alvarado for sure - anyone besides Brian pulling for the Team? (ahem... RJ :D)
And Robert we need you to pull too... even if it's just the WW! [coffee]

TEAM LAZAR rides again! Bgt a Pulling Hook (3" Linnette Ring) with Alvarado in mine. Not as fancy as most but adjustable.... and found a used one WAY under, by half, the usual $300-$400 they seem to cost everywhere.
I'll bring my factory rear bumper in case of Ranch Hand carnage. [laugh]

EDIT: Found this thread. Alvarado is on the 23rd! :)

hey guys just letting ya'll know, bobby aranged for the antique tractors to pull during the day. (9am to around 7pm)basically 10 hours of tractors, don't get me wrong I like the tractors just not 10hrs worth, so the reason I'm tellin ya'll this cause I don't want anyone to be mad about no info about this kind of stuff. My advise for people who are comin out to see the trucks, I would say show up around 5:00ish and check out the tractors and get ready for the trucks..unless you plan on making a weekend out of it like several of the N-tx guys...Not trying to scare anyone off just givin the facts..hope this helps....thanks Buck..
Sounds like serious pulling competition... by the rules, etc. Maybe no time for "first timers" and fun pulling??
Thanks for the update, Buck. Last yr was a little short on details and schedules. Ubderstandable being first yr and all, but the more info the better. :)
Burleson is only 12 miles up the road from Alvarado! Anyone interested if we can set it up for Saturday morning .....half a dozen trucks or so....to dyno on their new Dynacom Dyno.

I've seen some F/A-18's flying around with stuff mounted under their wings, but otherwise I haven't been looking up. The guy that said he looked through his scope at it works at the same place I do, just different shift. The radio commercials have been fun to listen to though, they were advertising an "alien" guide, like a hunting guide.

Rowland you can count me in on the dyno! I'd like to reconfirm my HP number and if possible get a solid torque number. I can do Friday Evening, the later the better. Or Saturday Morning....The later the better. It sounds like we are going to be sitting around most of Saturday anyway, unless we want to go watch tractor pulls.....so I'd prob prefer Saturday.
Is it possible to bring a mobile dyno to Alvarado for the truck guys while the tractor guys are pulling? I'd bet it would generate more entries.

This is what is left of my son's 2000 Jetta. Hit by big truck. The car did it's job protecting my son and his 1/2 brother. This happened Wed. night. The front seat back broke to absorb impact as well as the crumple zone. As good a job this little car did of protecting him, he now wants a truck. I can't blame him. Highway speeds.
BE SAFE GUYS! You never know what the "person" behind you is going to do.
This is what hit him.

Speed limit was 65. He was accelerating to pass on the left before he started his turn. Said he did that instead of passing on the shoulder because he felt he did not have the room and would possibly roll the truck. Look at this picture and decide if he had enough room.
My truck is where my son's car was.

Brian, How bad was the nut? Need help?
RJ
bnold
01-23-2008, 11:12 AM
I needed a big pry bar to put between the lugs to even turn that thing! It was locked down!
THe nut wasn't too bad to take off... I was sick of those **** thru hub wheel caps by the end of the project though..
1. Break lug nuts
2. jack up truck
3. remove lug nuts and wheel
4. remove center cap
5. Reinstall wheel
6. tighten a few lug nuts
7. place truck on ground
8. bounce on end of 6' pipe until nut breaks loose (curse when pipe hits ground and smashes finger! :))
9. Jack truck back up
10., remove wheel all over again
11. finally get to work on bearing!!!!
12. Repeat 10-1! Stupid thru caps! lol All Ryans fault too! :D
Kerri said it was making a good bit of noise and getting harder to steer... Ya I bet... It took a few tries (on separate days) to get the truck straight in a parking spot cause the power steering wasn't strong enough to overcome the drag of the bum wheel!! :o Ya that could have been bad!
I was impressed at the impressive pile of molten metal shavings that collected on the knuckle!! Wish I would have snapped a pic of those!! It was a good sized clump!

Quack Quack! Speaking of ducks[laugh][laugh].... I meant to mention to ya'll about my mishap over New Years. I forgot to tell you that I submerged my Kawi Brute Force 750.
We went to Rural Shade RV park about 20 miles se of Corsicana. They have some deep mudholes. I rode through a bunch all day long......well one caught me by surprize and next thing you know im up to my handle bars in water. Machine went blub blub.....and died.
We pulled it out....went to a nearby tree and used the winch to lift the front end up. I got the water out of the airbox and slowly bumped the starter and water was coming out of the exhaust. Tried that a few times, real slow.
Tried to crank it. Nothing. Towed it back to camp....took out the plugs. Turned it over real good. Dried out and reinstalled plugs ( I had no spares) Nothing. Checked the oil....later that night......it was white, milky looking. Definately water in the oil. Alot of water. So im done. And im screwed. At this point im just wondering what kind of damage I have done.
Well here are the pics....

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w206/TexasCTD/DSCF0352.jpg
I took it to Sherman Powersports because I knew I was getting in over my head. They took it all apart and surprizingly there was NO damage! Water, crud, moisture, and Rust....what a mess! But no damage. They disassembled the entire engine and cleaned each part, separately, and reassembled. I guess they had to do some work on the valves. And it just needed a few parts that are standard for reassembly, but no "actual" damage. Got it back today and it seems to be running fine as best I can tell. $1300[yuk]. Expensive lesson but I feel lucky it wasn't more.:o

No worries Mate! Just enough to get me over 600 hp.....Maybe.
Not enough to beat "Nitrous Man". [laugh]
I actually added two things!
Spoke w/ guy at BD and was shocked to learn the PROGUARD 7 AFE filter that they ship with their twins costs 13 hp at 500 hp... over the AFE Racing Filters! They use the '7' for max filtration, obviously.
Spoke to RIP and he sells only the AFE Racing Filter, which he says filters very well and more than enough, IHO.
AFE's racing filters are 5 layers thick, instead of 7 layers.
Bgt my size in a AFE race filter ....so we'll see what happens!

I have no idea what the CFM rating on my AFE is... Or even which filter it is?? The kit came from RIP so maybe it is the racing??
...I have no idea what the CFM rating on my AFE is... Or even which filter it is?? The kit came from RIP so maybe it is the racing??
Based on what he said...I'm sure it is. Blue, Right?
All Blue AFE's are 5 layer. Heck, my first after market filter was a K&N FIPK II. It was only three layers and worked great.
No dust or debris of any kind in my intake tube...... as long as I left it as it came from the factory and didn't over oil it. :)
I think BD went with the 7 layer at engineers request. I'm sure it works beautifully at stock but I suspect RIP is right and they are just unnecesarily restrictive at higher HP!

I think mine is blue...
Man truck things are just getting put off lately! Still want/need to
1. rebuild Secondary
2. Place thermocouple 'bungs' for monitoring air intake temps (for fun)
3. Install oil temp probe in amsoil bypass filter unit (cause I have it and I can)
4. Install new deep toolbox (Water/meth and nitrous leaves little room for important stuff! :( like tools, tow strap, tie downs, etc...)
5. Need to get the tires balanced again (It's free and after my ball joints tore up two I need to get it down every 5-10k)
6. Install new quad box, I'm sure he wants the old one back sometime
7. Do 70-100 test for comparisons with and without power adder
8. Tighten Exhaust brake (Only seeing 40lbs at 2800RPM need 60psi)
9. Small air leak to fix
10. Install special remote start relay for high idle/ exhaust brake operation
11. Install WTS relay
12. Rust specs from BFG debris need to be fixed before spreading....
13. Hmmm what else front end could probably use a greasing..
14. Oh been wanting to pul my old shifter back in to see if I like it better than the short throw.

Mine with just an intake would make 270hp, you won't make it that well just set on stock being yours is an S.O. but mine isn't supposed to be that high anyway. With the edge juice you should make well into the 300's.

texas ctd,
i am not sure what it is it has had those symptoms to a lesser extent for the last year. and they hav e not been able to find the problem, b/c apparently they could not duplicate the same results i was having.
so today when it died probably a grand total of 30 times between 530 am- 530pm, i came home pulled out the edge in a fit of rage and took it up to allen samuels fort worth, i hope that can fix her.
i think it might be the lift pump, she does have 153k miles. and i hear they go bad all to often.
TexasCTD
02-01-2008, 08:56 PM
Sounds like it could def. be the lift pump. The dealer is going to want to do the in-tank pump if that is the case. Could be a little more work later to install an aftermarket fuel system, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
I still have my original canister mounted lift pump if you want it. It was working fine when we took it off about a year ago. Should be the same from 03-04.5.

Yes you would have to remove the one they just installed. Or at least drop the tank to put in another draw straw.
The 03-04.5 trucks have the lift pump mounted on the fuel filter canister on the driver side of the engine. Starting in 05, they moved the lift pumps to the fuel tank. They do better in tank. The pumps "prefer" to push the fuel rather than pull it from the tank. So they seem to have less problems with the pumps......and since then they have started retrofitting all Dodge trucks to the intank style....even 2nd gens.....if you take it to the dealer for repair.
They work fine for stock power (or even a little more). But if you want to "Bomb" your truck and more fuel supply becomes necessary you will have to replace the factory pump with a FASS or Walbro or something.
If you just need a pump to get you by until you replace yours with an aftermarket pump, my old stocker may work for a while for you. It has been sitting in my garage for almost a year though.

well heck it has been my plan to do the fass pump, so i might aswell just go get my truck after they tell me o yes it is the pump.
and order the fass and just go ahead and install that. and be done with it.
1-10 wrench rating being 10 the most difficult whats this install rated.
price is about $900 correct?
Duallydog
02-02-2008, 04:56 PM
Should be $499-700 depending on if you want the fuel filters (the actual F.A.S.S. part of the F.A.S.S. system) or just the pump. It gets harder the less room you have, like a 2wd short bed, will be hard just because of the space you don't have to work with. bnold is one to talk to about putting them on.
bigredBCS

On your truck....your tank pretty much falls out once you get all the hose connection loose….....
Short beds kinda suck, but you do some trimming on the frame bracket, you will be ok. I would say a SB is about a 4-5 on your meter.

Voltage Drop.....messing with the tune. Hate to say it but its going to be a dance that you need to do if you are going to reflash. The harness you have works off the stock ECM...so for some reason, the ECM feels the need to run the lift pump when reflashing.
On your truck, its not a big deal if you forget to plug it back in as the CP3 can pull through the FASS. BUT you can rig up a toggle switch on the trigger wire if you want to kill the pump when you tune.....that might be the best way....

Dont want to post in the General or anything cause it always get out of hand!
In the market for my first uh hmm... legally owned hand gun.
Looking for a .40 cal semi easily concealed semi auto...
Main areas of interest that I have seen in my price range that I like are:
1. Glock 23 (winner so far)
2. XD40
3. Glock 27
Pros Cons that I see right now
1. Glock 23 is proven and a great all around gun, parts are easily obtained, shoots great right out of the box. Cons: fairly wide profile, not the prettiest gun in the world (But I kinda like that... Gun is all business, doesn't need any bling), and the trigger pull is fairly heavy ($30 replaces the spring)
2. XD40... Actually fits a bit nicer in my hand, price is good, looks are good as well, extra thrumb safety (Not sure yet whether that is a pro or a con for me yet... hmm); Cons Parts made in Croatia!! HATE that idea, parts can be hard to find, jambing or fail to fire reports are higher than the Glocks, I have NOT shot this gun yet, but my (trusted) friend tells me they are fairly crude in their operation (reason he went with the Glock)
3. Glock 27 Pros: All of the same of the 23, but is much more easily concealable Cons; need a dang grip extender to even try and be comfortable in my hand.... Think this one is out unless others can convince me otherwise.
I want a good all around... I will be shooting often back home, want accuracy. It will spend lots and lots of time chillin in my door pocket (Jetta or Dodge), dont expect to personal carry that often really if ever....
I think the above points me to a compact (Glock 23/XD40), but not a subcompact (27)...
All opinions welcome... Other brands welcome as well... I've narrowed my search quite a bit but welcome others with a good reason... Oh and I've looked at and shot my buddies para and man that thing is nice but at $1100 its well outside my price range... I'm looking <$650

For concealed carry, go with the Glock 27. I have to carry a 23 on duty, and think it's a bit too big for concealment. Personally, I carry a 3" 1911 for off-duty use. I've trusted and used the 1911 for years. If you want, I can bring three grip extenders for a Glock to the Alvarado meet. This will be my first event, and what better way to get acquainted than to bring free gifts.

I think it really depends on what kind of concealed carry you want... I hung my Glock 17 under my left shoulder for several years no problem - got to where I felt undressed without it - but no way that sucker was gonna ride on my ankle! [nonono] :o
As far as weight goes - IMO, there's no such thing as a heavy Glock. [laugh]

Do you still think it would be the best all around option for me even though I don't plan on personal carrying often? For the most part the most concealed it will be in the door... Ya that should be the easiest of all three... I'm not sure how the auxiliary relay I have for the remote start will react to a little back feed if no diode is used.... Guess I'll find out! Don't want to go to Radio Shack!

[laugh]
your 17 is about an inch longer and 3/4" taller than the 23....

Look at the Sigsaur. For me, it was a toss up between the Glock 27 and the Sig....I opted for the Sig. The first time I fired it was to take my CC renewal.....scored 98.

I think it is a model 26. It's a 9mm and I don't remember the 40 cal model number. My son-in-law that's on the Collin County SO has been carrying it for the past two years. He was never a gun person and qualified with it on his first trip to the range when he was in the academy.

well good news. the local dodge house has told me 100% its the lift pump. my aftermarket warranty would not cover all of it. if i want the dodge house to take care of it it would cost me $360ish out of pocket. so i might as well spring the cash for FASS or AirDog or similar product.
the problems i am having are:
1. i have no idea which one to get, what GPH, and PSI range or whatever.
1. the truck will most likely never go over the 425HP range, if so not by very much. so i dont think i need super high powered.
2. i think i would like to have one with the 2 canister set up, water seperator, and filter.
2. i would like to find a LOCAL shop, within about 50 miles. of my house (bedford) that will work with me and work with my aftermarket warranty.
if i have to pay more than $360 out of pocket for the GOOd fuel system thats not a problem, might as well do it RIGHT.

It's prob a Sig P226 model. Mine is a 2 tone P226 .357 Sig. with the Double Action Kellerman Trigger system and Trijicon night sites and slide on light rails. Awesome weapon! Particularly with the rounds we carry in them!:o....that aren't available to the public. Surgeons just can't sew you up after taking a hit from one of them.[tapdshut]
Anyway, you can get the Sig P226 in 9mm, .357, or .40 s and w. They are not cheap, but they are hard to beat. http://www.sigsauer.com/Products/ShowCatalogProductDetails.aspx?categoryid=7&productid=61
Nothing wrong with a Glock either...by the way. I just prefer the Sig. [coffee] Brian, If you want to take a closer look at it....I can bring it to Alvarado.

There .40 selection is very limited... They have an LDA Tac-Forty That I REALLY like! 7.7" long and 5.25" tall means the most concealed it would ever see would be vehicle use... Be hard to hide that on me!
They have lots of options in .45 cal though (3", 3.5, 3.75, 4, 4.2, 4.25" barrels!).... may have to include them in my search!

Personal opinion... all Glocks are ugly!
If you want something big... I think hard to beat 1911 military 45's. Most comfortable fit (in my hand anyway) of any gun ever made. And price ranges, for good usable gun, from $400 up. Also, lots of after market 'stuff' to improve them, if you really get into it.... and cheap military ammo for lots of practice. :)
Got a few... if you want to try one. :D

I also have a Mac 380 that is easy to conceal. I figure that if I ever have to use it, the Federal HydraSchocks at close range will do plenty of damage. This one too, is a very accurate and dependable weapon for taking the CC shooting profiency test. I did change the grips on it to make it fit my hand better. It's not real pretty, but no one ever sees it but me anyway. :) If I feel the need, I pack my S&W 44 Special. :o
Almost forgot....my wifes gun-totin', Fed Agent nephew carries the Mac as a backup. All of their tests favored the Sig, but he kept the Mac for his backup.

Man....we all got to learn sometime......
On your year truck.....it should be on the back of the filter head towards the firewall. It will be a black plastic looking thing with fuel lines going to it and a 2 pin Deutsch Style connector.
NOW if you have an intank converted pump, the lift pump would be back in the tank. BUT you should know this as the dealer is really the only one doing this conversion and normaly under wnty for lift pump issues. You would find a block off plate with a the fuel line attached to the back of the filter head in that case. BUT if you never took your truck into the dealer for lift pump wnty work, you should have the on one the filter head still.
If you got any further FASS questions...PM me...i added you to my buddy list.....i try to keep work stuff off the North Texas Chapter thread as this is my brake room if you will! haha....

Brian, I don't know much about the Para. But I can just tell you can't go wrong with the Sig. After the DPDs extensive testing of the Sig, Glock, and Berettas...the Sig won out over the others. 3000 of us carry them. Awesome weapons with a VERY proven track record over the past 20 years.

I would hardly call the Sigs a "dime a dozen"![laugh] They are very expensive weapons. We just happen to have 3000 of us on the dept...and that is what the dept issues us because they know them to be top quality. But instead of taking the standard issue 9mm....I bought my own personal .357 sig at the discounted rate of around $750-800 a couple of years ago.
No problem if you prefer a different weapon. But don't take my comment about the 3000 of them....to mean that the Sigs are cheap or of lesser quality. I meant it to mean that even with 3000 of us carrying them, everyday,....It is a proven gun since we have so FEW problems with them.
I don't see the general public with Sigs everyday.

Oh I understand completely, But it is a more common gun I guess... That better? :) They are both proven, both reliable, etc... But cabelas keeps about 50sigs in stock and about 5 paras... Just simply because the sig is more common, which is fine... Maybe I want to be less common! [laugh] lol

Still working on my WTS relay... wire I picked seems to be energized all the time?? Not what the service manual says... hmm got to find a different wire! Heck I could just run a wire directly from the relay... guess that would do it too! lol

Yeah, your Jetta should fit quite nicely on that :)
If Mike isn't bringing his trailer down, I can bring mine, if it will work. It is only 83.5" (just shy of 7') from inside pipe rail to inside pipe rail. Never measured the width of my truck.

if its not one thing its another..... ordered the FASS150/95 1008, be here tuesday hopefully installed tuesday as well.
so i look out at my truck (sitting very sad and lonely in my driveway) and notice an oily spot under it, its not motor oil, i look at it almost clear maybe slightly yellow, pinkish. try to sniff it, no smell. so i did the only other thing i new and that was to taste it, TASTED awful... very bitter similar to anti freeze but i dont think it was.
my AC has not worked since october, so when i took it in last week i had them charge it and put die in. and of course they were unable to spot a leak. i was wondering if this is whats on my driveway.
what kind of light do i need to detect there die?
o and the leak is front of the motor near the AC compressor drips from there to my sway bar then to the ground.
this post = venting

If something comes up and I can't make it, I will get it to Mike to bring down.
I am really hoping to be there. I know I missed out on a good time last year. I will also have my Firestone airbags by then. If I haven't installed them by then, I might do it down there, with Mike's help ;)
I will also have a 2.5 gal. air tank to install and I have my Viair compressor to install too :D I think I will wait until a meet at a place with a shop to do those. I don't want to work that whole weekend, we want to be able to have fun and watch the events.

Hey Charlie,
Yeah, I will have to drill holes. My B/W GN frame rails might interfere, that is where Mike might have something up his sleeve.
I got Firestone Ride Rite P/N 2071. Hope that is the right part. For the 94-98 trucks, Firestone lists 2 part numbers: one if you have factory overloads and one for if you don't. For the 1998-2002, they just list the one (2071).

I'm afraid your hitch will be in the way. Maybe Mike can come up with something, or you could drill through the hitch bracket and use longer bolts. Also, do you have the rear wheel well liners? The instructions say to cut them, but I have a thick piece of foam rubber between the bag and the liner to keep it from rubbing.

B/W says it is OK to drill through the hitch bracket, just do not weld to it. They also say the hitch must be installed first (I'm good to go there). I have the wheel well liners, don't mind cutting them.

We'll have the trailer - fortunately there's still enough clutch to haul it loaded. It's only 82" inside, Rob - but that's enough to load a truck with OEM backspacing.

We're gonna try to design a bolt-on bracket adapter so this accessory combo can be used on 2nd Gens. :)

That would work for mine... with 35's on stock wheels. I figure 82" needed to allow an inch or so on each side. But probably too narrow for Brians (and yours now) with after market wheels that stick out more??
IF not a hassle to bring it....would be great piece of mind, just in case.
If your willing to bring it with you, let me know what your drinking.... I'm buying!
