Fault codes 1693 & 1765

Angry Fault codes 1693 & 1765

I only found one thread on this issue with it really not going anywhere or a much talk of a solution.


Looking those codes up it comes to:

P1765: Open or short in the Transmission Relay control circuit.

P1693: The companion engine control module has shown a fault.


So questions:

1) Where is the RCC and could that be the trouble m or what else?
2) Could this be covered under a power train warranty?
3) Is one item affecting the other, or could it be both items?

My 98 has throwm 9 codes and one of them is the same one you have
I also have the p1693 code along with a few others that I can't remember off the top of my head.

Is this better?

I let the truck sit for 3 days. I drove it this afternoon and no engine light or fault codes.

It has done this before. The first time the engine light and the truck sat for about 4-5 hours and light did not come on again until a few days ago.

I had the guy at auto zone scan them and erase them

here are the codes I have so far that were cleared
p1693
p0234
p0253
p0251
p0382

they have not come back yet but I also have yet to tow with the box on again.
Truck is going down for a new clutch here in the next few days so it might take a while to tell what when wrong.

I was told the P1693 code is related to the VP, something about it not communicating with the computer on the side of the engine.
Thats the only code I have showing, and I'm definatly getting symptoms of a dying VP.

1693 is nothing but a code telling you that there is a code.

If all you see is the 1693, you need to have it scanned with a scanner.
If all the scanner sees is the 1693, then you need to have it scanned with the Dodge DRB Scantool, as it is the only scanner in existance that properly communicates with both the PCM and the ECM,
available at the Dodge Dealership, or on ebay for thousands of dollars.

What are the symtoms of a dying VP?

I had codes, but they went away. However I still getting some symtoms before the codes stopped showing. The symtoms went away, but again returns and still no codes.
If the turbo charger needs to increase PSI a little bit, such as going up a steep hill the engine/drive train will jerk a little bit 2 or 3 times.

However if I use high accelleration performance is fine.

How much is the injector pump? If that is the problem better get it replaced while I still have the funds to do it.
Would that be considered part of the driver train for warranty purpose?

Looks like you are outside of the 5yr for the engine warranty, unless you have an extended one.

VP44's go for between $800 and $1400 depending on where you look.

Check out HRVP discussions in performance/accessories for locations to check out, they seem to be a good replacement option.

I bought it used and came with a 3000 mile/3 month powertrain warranty. That is why I ask if it would be covered under the definition of
"powertrain"

My 2 codes (1693 & 1765) came back today for a short time. The engine also seemed like it was going to stall while idling.

Then on the highway the exhaust temp at the manifold was higher than normal and it seemed the turbo did not want to boot the pressure very much so it seemed the engine was having a bit of trouble moving the truck.

I changed the fuel filter this afternoon. The codes were gone before I changed it. After change I ran the engine for a while and noticed no problem. I will be out driving later then after I return I can tell how it went

I took mine to a dodge dealer a couple weeks ago because I was getting the 1693 code and he did not get it with whatever tool he was using. He did try to find out what this code meant but the dodge computer system did not have a listing for it. I have done lots of research on this site but have not found any how to fix answers

1693 means that there is fault in another computer/controller.
I finally took my truck to the dealer and the problem was a sensor sending a fault code to the controller.
The main comuter that dislays the codes cannot tell what the code is coming from the other controller so it can only tell you it has a problem and sending a fault.
The dealer's equipment should be able to read those codes.

The crank sensor had gone bad on my truck.
