Fathers new ford 6.0 blew up!

My fathers new ford blew up with 2500 miles on it. I don't know why yet but it will require a new engine. He told me last month never to buy a dodge. LOL

Nothing to be learned! I would never buy a first run engine, or truck. Waiting untill at least year 2 if i can to buy a new product works for me.

Re:Fathers new ford 6.0 blew up!

The Ford 6.0 has all the signs of another "GM diesel disaster" The fortunate thing is the other two manufacturers (GM and Dodge) at least have engines that run well.
Think of the first time diesel owners that are coming away with the impression this is how "all" diesels run.
Think of the people losing money hand over fist from having their truck in the shop for 30+ days. (lost productivity, out of pocket expenses, etc.)
I am not happy that Ford has produced such a lousy engine. If the Ford engine was running reliably, I would have given the truck more consideration. The GM frame hangs too low for my use and the ford dosn't run. That means there is only one choice...
bish777, check THIS site out (if you havn't already) There is lots of good info on your dad's truck. I think we all lose when a manufacturer produces a piece of crap, I hope they get it straight soon. There is no fun in laughing at another man's misery.

Re:Fathers new ford 6.0 blew up!

I agree with Westcoaster. It does not matter whether you wear Bowties, bleed Blue or love Rams, if you pay $40K for a vehicle, it should operate correctly. In this day and age of computer modeling and simulation (see Car and Driver May 2003), I find it difficult to accept that Ford could not have done a better job with the new engine/transmission combo.
I take no pleasure is seeing someone else have to go through this, no matter what make his vehicle is. My friend's new 6.0 (delivered Jan '03) has not given him any problems (knock on wood) yet. If it does, I will not stand around and laugh at him and tell him he should have bought something else. Someday my VP-44 might go out, hopefully he returns the favor of not laughing.

What comes around... goes around.

You never know if the people you’re laughing at today aren’t the very same people that you will need to depend on tomorrow. [undecided]

Its good to know how to swim if you're always burning your bridges.

Re:Fathers new ford 6.0 blew up!

If the Ford 6.0 perspective buyers would have read about them (6.0 IH V8's) on the school bus web under mechanics corner they probably would have not bought one. IH sells DT380,466 + 530's vs 444 (7.3 PSD) V8's 15 to 1 in school bus chassis, this may be an indication of downline maintenance costs as I6 diesels are higher capital investment than the V8's. You will also read in their forum how inframe and engine rebuilds are expected on the V8 at 140k to 200k max vs 250k-400k on I6 engines. These guys have had this engine (6.0) for two years already and are not having any better luck than Ford owners check it out. An empty 15000lb school bus will be worked harder than any 7000lb pickup, problems will show up sooner in commercial applications because of this. I personally like a lot of technical features on the Ford SD however it took 3 years to get rid of the Dana 50 hybrid (half breed) front axle but their track bar system is modelled after the ones in big trucks and is far superior to the Dodge. All manufacturers of diesel pickups are producing built in problems and defects but until the buying public refuses to drop $40k+ on inferior products with excellent new technology we will remain the paying victims. Re:Fathers new ford 6.0 blew up!

My 1st diesel was a ford and it lasted to 150k before it's engine went south. It also had the IFS set-up. I now have the best diesels put in a light truck X 3.
I just thought that the irony of someone telling their son never to buy a dodge diesel & have their ford diesel crap out at 2500 miles was funny. I'd find humer even if the trucks were switched arround. That's just me.
At least his is covered under warrenty.

I'd buy another ford if the dodge + cummins marraige didn't exist.

Re:Fathers new ford 6.0 blew up!

I know this is a Dodge site and I own a Dodge but when you dish out the kind of money that Dodge/Ford or GM wants for these trucks they should be flawless until the warranty is up, but what are the odds of that happening

Re:Fathers new ford 6.0 blew up!

I think Ford felt they were falling behind in technology so they pushed the ship dates. I bet they regret it now. :-[

They just did a 2003 diesel test in four wheeler and the Ford came out 1st , Chevy 2 , Dodge 3. Of course this has nothing to do with reliability. Which can only be proven with time.
