FASS Lift pump.....do it myself?

FASS Lift pump.....do it myself?

My 2001 2500 needs a new lift pump (still has the stocker on the side of the engine) and probably a new VP-44 (has occasional dead pedal and code 0216) with 180,000 kms on it. My question is: I would like to change the LP to a FASS first to see if the code and dead pedal go away. Can I do this myself fairly easily or should it be done at a shop? Do those pumps include everything for installation. I'm fairly mechanically apt as an auto mechanic that's been out of the trade for 20 years. How long should it take to install? I likely will have to change the VP-44 anyways but would like to try this first. Any suggestions or advise? Thanks. Kev.

I just put the FASS hpfp 95 gph on my dads 02 from vulcan performance also got the big line kit with it. Kit is complette everything ull need to do the install from the tank to the IP. took me around 4 or so hours to do it no special tools need. Mounted our pump on one of the bed cross brases. also a tip on getting the fuel line off the tank cut the hose 6 or8 inches away from conector then u can turn it to get to the clips easyier to release it very simple install directions were pretty good good luck.

The only thing thats not included in the fass kit is a pick up tube. You have to order that seperatly. You only need a pickup tube if your truck has the updated feul pump in tank. If your still running the pump on the side of the engine you can just plug into the stock pickup tube on the sending unit.

Yep, pretty easy to do yourself. I used a buddy to help me get the old fuel line off the fitting at the tank. I didn't cut the line in case (for some odd reason) it ever needed to be used again. I mounted mine down on the drivers' side frame rail under the tank. I figured a little extra help from gravity surely wouldn't hurt in giving the pump a little more life. Just watch out when you crack the fuel line to bleed it before you start it up, can get a little messy under the hood.

yes, easy to do. Trying to undo the clip on the tank took the longest as I did not want to cut the line. Just cut the line and you're good to go.

It was easy. If you lay on the ground under the truck, you can pull yourself up to a sitting position under the rear fender in front of the left front wheel.
From there you can reach the top of the fuel tank and connect the hose.
Some guys clamp the hose directly to the tank module without using the clip-on fitting. Others just use the clip. Your call. I had to use pliers in order to squeeze the clips and get the old one off. It has an O-ring. A drop of oil will help the new one go on smoothly. I ran the hose along the frame rail and tie-wrapped it to the return line. I ran the wiring inside the hollow frame rail.
loosen the pressure regulator where the return line hooks to the VP44 and bump the starter till the juice comes out. Tighten it back & fire it up.
I did all this and I'm 67.
