Fan Speed Control Switch
This past weekend my fan speed control switch decided to quit working properly. I have low and High only. Seem to have lost the two middle fan speeds. Since winter is here I find this to be a bit of a problem. I was driving 400 miles yesterday with that and what a pain. Low is not enough to keep warm and high while it will warm you up is just way too hot after a few minutes. So I was frequently turning it from low to high and high to low.
Anyone else have one do this and tear into the switch? Or should I just get a whole new control. I suspect since it is integrated with the rest of the hvac switches it is going to be an expensive part. If you have had this happen and torn into the switch what did you find? Not the most electrical astute person but willing.

2nd vote on take a look at the resister . it on the passanger side under the dash in the blower houseing, held in with two screws has a wire plug with like 4 or 6 wires going into it if you get under there you will see it it's 1 1/2 inch by 2 1/2 or so.

Yep I third that motion, my 94 that I used to have did the same thing, I could never figure it out untill I pulled the whole HVAC unit from under the dash to clean the evaporator. The I noticed the white resister in a hundred peices, changed it out and it worked on all speeds.

Well it was the resistor. I pulled the old one out and sure enough it was in sad shape. The cross bar that goes from one side to the other end the solder had melted off and it was just hanging free. I thought about just resoldering it but the ceramic was cracked up pretty good and fairly discolored. So I just picked up a new one.
Thanks for the help.
